Thoughts about 7970 vs 660Ti and something else. - Page 2

If you're even thinking about watercooling, go reference design so you can find a full-cover block. If not, the GB windforce is a sweet card.

Tempting tempting... Though what ive been planing was just to go custom cooling on my CPU and not the GPU altogether. haha

I've owned two 7970 double D, they are crap.
The voltage is locked to 1.175 volt, and it's quite loud.
They also removed the dual bios.

The locked voltage really is a big deal.

EDIT : If you buy a 7970 make sure that it is not voltage locked. Gigabyte, Sapphire and XFX are locking their cards, not sure about other brand.

A locked 7970 will only allow you to achieve terrible clocks. My 1st could only do 1090-1100 and the 2nd 1060.

Cheapest HD7970 on newegg costs as much as the cheapest GTX 670, I dont know why you are comparing it to GTX 660ti.

MSI HD 7970 3GB , 3 Free games

$359.99 after $30.00 rebate card

GIGABYTE GTX 670 2GB + Free Borderlands 2

$359.99 after $20.00 rebate card

You can always upgrade the other parts later.

Try something else than newegg thumb.gif

On ncix the reference MSI is 330$ after rebates. I got my 670 FTW here for 360$.

The reason behind that is because if ever im gonna be getting the 660Ti, i might get it together with the other parts that ive mentioned. smile.gif Concerning about the Gigabyte 7950 OC, might have a hard time looking for it back here in my area.. Or even with Gigabyte Cards as a whole since majority of the cards being sold back here in my place are the more common ones (imo) which are Asus, Palit, Sapphire, EVGA, Inno3D, HIS, Power Color and Gainward. frown.gif

Another reason to buy reference. Dual BIOS switches biggrin.gif. I actually just made a deal for a Diamond 7970 reference with a DD full block (2 blocks actually) and a Dwood cover thumb.gif.

I live in the PH and I buy mostly on retail shops since shipping for me would cost me way much more rather than buying from retail shops.
