3700+ overclocking

Ok I know a lot of you guys are gurus at the san diego core so I need help. I have never even seen an AMD bios before so this is a learning experience.

First of all, for some reason, 1T seems to run more stable than 2T.

Secondly, I have water cooling at at 1.45 vcore, my temps are 39C.

My ram sucks and is rated at DDR266.

I am using the motherboard in my sys specs which has a lot of options is and is known to reach 260 FSB.

What can you guys do with this?

Well I think you should probably ditch that RAM and get some decent DDR400 at least. Also, those temps seems a bit high for WC. Others can help with the WC info, as I have no experience with it.

I would get some better ram. You will severly limit the overclock or the potential of the computer using ram rated at 266.

Your temps seems pretty normal, possible a little on the higher side, for watercooling, but which blocks are you using as well as tubing?

The first thing I would is find out the max stable OC on the chip itself followed by the ram. This way you'll know which ram to shoot for and what you can expect from the chip.

slower ram speed will give you worst performance on a PC right? what if you OC'd the ram, lets say it was running at around 157 (DDR) that would be DDR333, if you OC the ram, and bring it to run at 250,(DDR500?) is that right? and will that solve any slow ram problems? I'm also on a 3700+ and am stuck at 2.53 GHZ with this ram. Planning to get OCZ Platinum edition 2 gb kit very soon.

Thanx for you replies people. My temps are at full load after playing NFS:MW for about 4 hours so they aren't that bad are they? I am using a CM Aquagate system which is low end, but seems to be doing the job alright.

Also, new ram is not an option because I can't justify spending $150 right now.

Can somebody explain what the HTT multiplier is? And which settings in the BIOS should be set for what?

I really want 2.7 ghz out of this.

Thanks again.

up the FBS to increase CPU speed, set multiplier to X11. lets say you put FSB to 230 and set multiplyer to x11(the max for the 3700) you would have 2.53 GHZ. HTT frequency(not sure if this is the correct term) in bios the options should be 2x,2.5x,3x,4x,5x. when you raise the FSB more than 30 (230 FSB) , you should set the HT frequency to 4x. also RAM is a huge part of overclocking.

yeah AMD likes 2 sticks of ram.

This is embarassing, it is the CPU right?

With such a powerful card the single core 3700 is definitely the bottleneck of the system. 3DMark06 is a very stressful program. To put this in perspective, a QX6800 with an 8800GTX SLI setup breaks about 20,000 on '06 with SS or LN2.

You have an inferior setup by quite a large margin. That score doesn't seem too bad IMO. You could try ditching the 3700 for an Opty 165 or X2 3800. It would surely help your scores.

I can get to 3.1 with my RAM clocked at 266. But that's down from DDR400. Get some better RAM and you're good to go.

With your stepping, I'd probably say the high 2.8's

HTT set to 200.

FSB set to 235

Vcore at 1.45

Ram at DDR200.

Running stable with superpi of 39s.

What else can I do?
