[WinSuperSite, Tech Report] Updated - Windows 8 Sales Well Below Projections - Page 14

Let's face it, Windows 8 is the Devorak keyboard of the 21st century.

There was a movement to get people to switch to it in the '80s, often citing the exact same things that people who think Metro is the best thing since sliced bread. They kept saying that it is faster and the main reason is that people are resistant to change because "people fear change".

Fact of the matter is, for a desktop, there isn't a fear of change, the reality is that most people who don't WANT to change, just don't see the NEED to change their desktop interface to be the same as a tablet interface that they maybe or may not have.

You might say Windows 8 was like the jump from the CLI to the GUI.

Except there was a benefit on all platforms they've done that, there's absolutely no benefit of Metro on desktops for a number of people where it will be equal or slower in speed but have to relearn stuff.

Especially when one of the biggest comments that pro-Metro people say you need to do to make using Metro much faster and easier ... use keyboard shortcuts.

So I find the comment about going from CLI to GUI very ironic, since in effect, the "solution" for Windows 8 is to actually take a half step BACK to the CLI days and use the keyboard and memorize a bunch for keyboard shortcuts.

I build high performance PC's for people when I am not working at my career. No one that I have built a PC for in the last month or any future orders have requested windows 8. Most are very vocal about there dislike for it.

Myself, I think it is a decent operating system but I prefer Windows 7 myself. The information systems group at my company has decided not to switch to Windows 8 for users unless software restrictions force the issue.

Microsoft should have given users a choice to use the classic desktop and start menu navigation scheme or to use the metro touchscreen media navigational scheme. This would have increased sales probably up to the level of the Windows 7 release.

I agree 100%. If they had allowed a simple config option to revert to the classic desktop (without having to dig through metro for anything) I'd have bought win 8 by now, and be running it. The back end upgrades just don't seem to be worth the extra hassle of the new interface which just doesn't suit a desktop. If I were buying a tablet or phone, I'd be totally happy with the metro interface. In fact, I've played with win8 in a store, on a touchscreen, and it's good. But there is no way I'm putting it on a desktop. I'd prefer to go run a few win2000 VMs in preference to win8.

Let's check the personal attacks and, um, 'observations' about other people's 'social skills' at the door here and stick to the subject at hand.

Thank you ...

It's microsoft's own fault anyways, they made a OS specifically designed for tablets and hoped for good sales?

Yeah....riiiiight.
