Ok, after spending hours finding how to access the BIOS on my new VAIO (SVE171290X) and disabling SECURE BOOT so I can install Windows 7. Everything I've done is useless because VAIO's own drivers (brightness, battery, volume, etc) do not work under Windows 7. Graphics drivers are also tied to the manufacturer. Basically they made it so you cannot install Windows 7 with full functionality on all laptops that come preinstalled with Windows 8.

Long story short, if you're buying a new laptop this year you're stuck with Windows 8 unless the manufacturer you're buying from has Windows 7 driver support.

I love win 8. I have installed it on my tablet (Acer iconia w500), laptop (Asus g73sw) and htpc.

I just bought a 3770k and a Asus p8z77-v pro to upgrade my sig system and will be installing win 8 on that this week. Power users should rejoice at win 8. It makes me tons more productive and efficient. There was a learning curve but it was well worth it.

And how is that in any way Microsoft's fault?

I just wish Win8 wasn't so buggy. Now I'm coming back to my computer after it's sat for a while and finding that the second monitor has no signal and the main monitor is at the wrong resolution. Just have to click "detect" under resolution to fix it but I don't know why its doing that...

For me, that one click is one click too many. And every time I go to click the Start Menu, it brings up Metro, which you don't want in the first place.
The problem many have is that Metro is all fine and well, on tablets, but for those few who don't want it they should be able to choose. There is no harm in letting users get rid of Metro and use the Start Menu if they want to. They can still use the store and still buy programs or whatever.
I don't understand why they can't do that for people. If there was a metro killswitch I'd be all over Win 8.
How do you manage to do that? I am quit interested in your logic regarding this matter, please explain more. thinking.gif

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Windows 7 is just that -- it's good enough that most people don't feel the need to upgrade at all, especially to something that's going to feel different (at least from what I've seen).

Then of course there's also the "recent" trend for Windows where one iteration sucks while the next one turns out to be good (hint: Vista >> 7). Obviously that doesn't help Microsoft at all.

** Yes, there were problems with XP and such, but the majority will know Vista being abysmal due to lots of negative publicity. **

If anything I, and a bunch of people that I know, were super excited about 7. But 8? Can really care less. And I'm sure the majority think the same way.

Just my two cents!

and what, may I ask, do you click less to get to?

And don't include shortcuts that have been in Windows since XP like the windows button, or Winkey-type search since vista. What new thing in merto makes it faster.

I use the windows key for classic and metro. That wasn't the less clicks.. its the clicking of the folders to get to programs and the lack of needing to scroll to get to them.

old way = windows key ---- folder --- subfolder ---- program

new way = windows key ---- program
