[WinSuperSite, Tech Report] Updated - Windows 8 Sales Well Below Projections - Page 8

Sad part is that if you actually give it a chance Win8 is really quite good. People are just stuck in their old ways and unwilling to change. Then again, this story is literally nothing more than one guy talking to a bunch of other guys (anecdotal evidence); hardly conclusive of Win8's failure.

Windows 8 is hands down the best touchscreen OS out there. Windows 8 will do amazing in the tablet market. Its so quick and intuitive it makes the Ipad seem like an idiot made the interface.

I will be buying windows 8 for my touchscreen side computers, and I will be buying a windows 8 tablet and windows 8 phone. IT is amazing how quick and useful windows 8 is on a touchscreen.

They made a bunch of questionable decisions, Microsoft is trying to transition itself into a more closed, more Apple like business but they are very confused about how to do that. In the meantime they are going to continue to see Windows market share slip.

If you look at who is gobbling up the most mobile market share lately it is the open Android platform. Maybe that is a clue that Microsoft made a mistake in going the walled garden Apple approach in mobile.

It's not the Walled Garden approach that's hurting Apple, it's how they're the only iPhone, iPad, etc maker, if they had strict guidelines (ie. They had to approve each new tablet, etc before sale) for other manufacturers then marketshare would jump. MS is copying Apple but taking the "More is better" approach, instead of just sharing some things across they seemingly want to make it so it's literally the single OS.

Right, because a Vista bloated OS from 3 years ago is simply amazing.

Windows 8 is still based on Vista...Vista is 6.0, 7 is 6.1 and 8 is 6.2. Not sure how you missed that.

A majority of the people that have Microsoft OS are gamers or people who are in the fleet of boats we are in. If we wanted a tablet like interface that was EXTREMELY user friendly like the 8 we would have bought apple products. But like you stated it truly is premade crap that no one is interested in. at least on this forum!

Um, no. Just no. There's over 2 billion people on the internet, Minecraft (A very popular game even among people who don't normally game much) has only sold 8 million copies...Most people are lucky to even start up a FB game.

Tablets, laptops, and hybrids. Those are what this thread is about

Laptops, last I checked, still have a similar input interface to desktops..which are still what sells, I've seen plenty of people who still buy desktops..and what about the entire workstation and business market? Desktops are far from irrelevant, I've seen desktop irrelevancy claimed as much as PC Gamings death. It's also just as true.rolleyes.gif

Only you would come out with such crap!

Eh, being fair, Windows in general is bloated, Linux boots faster and uses half the RAM while doing just as much if not more. (Assuming the correct applications are ported.)

Most people are also not very smart, and quite stubborn.

And? MS should have added that into their projections and thoughts when they decided to give Windows 8 such a large learning curve.

That may change, but for now, no-one wants it. It's not necessary and it doesn't fill any of the gaps Windows 7 did.

Source:

The fact that every single person I've spoken to offline, IT centric or average Joe/Joanne, have absolutely no interest in it on their computers. This is like 50 people. 50:0 don't want it. Which is quite staggering to be honest. There was a survay for our School at University, about updating a lab in the building to Windows 8. IT came back that 5% of the people who responded wanted an updated lab.

5%.

No one wants it. I'll bet Metro is 90% of the reason.

Exactly.

Oh look, it's this argument yet again.

I tried Server 2012, I really did, I was sick of Arch Linux having problems because of what seems like stupid design choices being made recently, I had a free copy of Server 2012 from Dreamspark..I installed it with the GUI to get a feel of what production W8 feels like on a real machine and not a VM and..well, the only differences between it and W7/Server 2008 R2 are negative for me, the UI is buggy (Randomly, the menu that lets you shut down, restart, etc just stops appearing..there's also absolutely no indication it's there, the average PC user has no chance) and slow compared to previous ones, it is faster and smoother but really, I'd much prefer W7 overall. I tried it, yet I'm still "scared of change"? That's like saying someone who just got cancer and is upset about it is just "scared of the change it will bring", I'm for change..when there's a good reason for it, and if its a good change...Metro on the desktop/laptop, for most users, is not a good change. You can argue this all you want but sales numbers are going a way to prove it.

There are a lot more things I hate with all my guts than Windows 8. I'm not such an idiot.
However, no, I don't need to get used to anything. The interface most likely WILL be going somewhere if people aren't very appreciative of it. You try to paint people who don't like it as people who can't appreciate it or don't see what you see, as though you're better. When, really, you're a pedantic, petty, petulant guy who makes more rapid posts than you'd accuse me of (lest I mention the accusations of abusive PMs you sent to people over the subject? I think you'll find no such PM's are on record from me).
But yeah, keep trying to play the guy who knows more than everyone else. I'm sure you really like it, but you need to stop these stupid posts whenever someone doesn't like it. This is your third thus far in this thread. You might work as a programmer but you are not better than anyone else and your opinion doesn't count more than anyone elses.
If you take the few days immersing yourself in the interface of Windows 8 so using it becomes second nature, it is objectively faster to use and get things done.

Sounds like you, and a lot of other people can't handle the knock to your pride that would result in admitting that not having the classic start menu is a total fail, so much so that it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy and even when presented with objective, factual evidence on how it is more efficient, you still won't change your mind.

Get over it. smile.gif

Just for reference, if I said to my boss, lets change something that's been making us money for over a decade, and he did and then we started loosing tons of money, I'd be fired.

It may work, it however does not work as well.

I was using it on and off for the last 6 months. Every time the new interface is just stupid and unintuitive. This is why I think everyone who calls it intuitive is just kidding themselves and saying it out aloud so they believe it themselves.

Windows 8 is a nice OS, but it's got a massive dog turn sat in the middle of it. I like this quote from the comments of this article:
Quote:
To me, Win8 is like a chocolate cake with a big dog turd in the middle. I *really* want to enjoy the cake, because I know it's good. But it's impossible to avoid the poo...

Which says it all. Win 8 is great, but the crap in the middle of the OS puts you off and gets in the way of the goodness.

It's been a good change for me and I loved Win7. Ultimately the Windows formula has grown stale IMO and Win8 is a refreshing change of pace. People like you just refuse to get over the stupid start button which is seriously pathetic in my view... rolleyes.gif

I think it's safe to say that a majority of the PC community hates windows 8 with a burning passion. I'm not very surprised by these numbers.

If they got rid of the metro UI or even if I was able to disable it then I would be all over windows 8. It is a superior OS to 7, but it's annoying to use.
