I have immersed myself in W8s GUI, I am on it right now
(I put it on my laptop as I'm certain that the W8 certain users on this site cannot be the same W8 I'm using), it certainly is not objectively faster...You lack jump lists in the start menu as well as have to move the cursor further to open anything which really can add up on a trackpad...In terms of actual performance, it trades blows with W7 in every review I've seen with the difference being about the same as going from 1333Mhz RAM to 1866Mhz RAM.
How is the classic start menu a total fail when GUIs are subjective?
Just because you
don't like it, that doesn't mean it's horrible for everyone, same with Metro, some people will like it, some people won't. You haven't provided objective factual evidence either, you've provided anecdotal evidence that is easily disproven by graphs, the lack of jump menus (Meaning that, as far as I can tell, you have to open say, Word, then your document rather than jumping straight into it in W7) and larger spacing of apps makes it slower to use for most people unless you're suggesting the laws of physics are incorrect.

Sorry, but I prefer having a productive UI made for desktops. Like I said above, I'm using W8 now...Metro is definitely not better than the start menu in my opinion.

I think Win8 will do somewhat well on tablets and the like, but not on desktops. You seem to think consumers will like Win8 because you (I think?) like W8, there's no truth in that either..I've talked to people about it at Uni, etc as have others and they've all reported that W8 likers are in the minority.

Windows 8 is a nice OS, but it's got a massive dog turn sat in the middle of it. I like this quote from the comments of this article:
Which says it all. Win 8 is great, but the crap in the middle of the OS puts you off and gets in the way of the goodness.
People who hate the new Start Menu are the ones who find typical tasks hard to learn, difficult to grasp, and unintuitive. The fault lies within you the user, im sure if I gave you a spoon that as made upside down. You would still try using it right side up.
It's never the users fault, MS wants them to buy their product, correct? Then you have to work around and with the users, that's programming 101. You don't try to force something on users you know that they won't get, that's just bad design right there.
