[WSJ]Samsung launches flexible cell phones - Page 3

Good, lets see some durable phones that aren't super thick and slow like the Galaxy Xcover or the Rugby phones. I love my B2710 Xcover, but it's thickness gets to me.

Nobody drops their phone on purpose. Personally I don't relish keeping my mobile device in a death-grip every time I send a text message, so my screen has acquired some cracks and dings over the years. Anything that makes mobiles more durable without having to encase them in half an inch of cheap, ugly plastic housing is a good thing imo.

they better hurry up and put a patent on that **** before apple does biggrin.gif

No, what will happen is Samsung makes the screen and apple will patent the flexible phone, rendering any thoughts of a "Galaxy Flex" essentially useless redface.gif

I must be the minority here that thinks this could be quite useful in the smartphone realm. The durability is a plus. And the fact that this is a good start to making devices even thinner. It would also be pretty comfortable in your pocket, molding itself around your leg. Whether these things appeal to you or not, this is still a step in the right direction of smartphone evolution.

I know right? All of those people who carelessly let their phones slip out of their pockets when getting out of the car, or who allow it to be knocked off of a table, or who get bumped into by strangers. Unfathomable.

Moral of the story? Put a case on it you cheap bastards and treat it like an electronic device, not a hammer.

How about we instead demand and pressure manufacturers to make their devices more intelligently so as to resist a simple, common fall. It's easy enough to do; they just don't do it because we don't demand it. Oppo, Fujitsu, and Panasonic are already doing this in part.

I remember seeing these at CES years ago! I personally think they looked neat on the surface level, but not that great in terms of quality of the images. We will see. I think the "flip phone" will have new meaning when this comes out for real.
