Another 5870 upgrade thread

Thread Starter
Ok, I've read a bunch of the other "5870 upgrade" threads and they did give me some guidance but since most of those are from 2011...

Anyway, the 5870 that I'm running now (that I picked up here btw- thanks!) is still running great but I've been bit by the upgrade bug and looking to get something better. I've been "allowed" up to $300 for a new card but not sure what to get. At first I was considering crossfiring a 5xxx card but a couple of searches here have mentioned that it may not be worth it performance wise...not to mention that I'd have to upgrade my mb (only one pci slot currently). So I figured I'd go with a single card and instead. Currently thinking about a 7xxx card but not sure which will give me the biggest bang for the buck. I'm thinking about going NVidia since almost every emu/game tweaker has tools uses it but not sure what to get. I've only got a 1920x1200 monitor and not looking to upgrade. Ideas?

Went from 5870 to 7950 windforce @ 270$ was the cheapest option for me. The card runs benchies @ 1260/1640 & games at 1240/1600. Even at stock the card is handling all candy display setting with 1200p resolution.
Good upgrade wasn't so expensive and overclock live a charm. The cooler is quite good but above 30% fan it is noisy. Note the default 30% fan speed is enough to keep temperature bellow 60C at overclocked speeds!

Sounds good and thanks for the link. No votes for anything Nvidia or would I need more cash?

AMD has NVIDIA beat on the $/performance ratios at the moment unless you love CUDA cores, PhysX, or something I don't know.
