[Build Log] HTPC "Thunderbolt" - Silverstone GD07B, Intel 3770, DZ77RE-75K, H100

Not quite sure how I will be using this, likely a HTPC / Home Server.

New: The project has changed to a desktop for a family member. Surprise gift! So it will need to serve multiple purposes; gaming, photo editing, etc.

Final List

Intel i7-3770K
Intel DZ77RE-75K (Thunderbolt)
Intel 520 240GB SSD
Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200RPM SATA3 64MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Drive x2
Corsair H100
Enermax Revo 850W
Yate Loon D90BL-12 92MM RED/BLACK Cooling Fan 1400RPM 25CFM 28DB 3/4PIN Ball Bearing x 2
NZXT Sentry MESH 30W Fan Controller 5 Adjustable Front Sliders
EVGA Geforce GTX 660 SC 2GB

- more storage/parts to come as I wait on a few favors to come through
- the H100 will be the challenge, but I do want silent and cool

- going to use the thunderbolt for graphics output and see what type of performance we can get (not anymore)
- likely going to be using Windows 8

As I dive into the build, I will take better pics and try to document it all.

Final Pics

Some Temp Shots. Pretty happy with the use of 2 x 92mm Fans

So...I have one screw that is able to secure the fans into the H100 Rad. I had to think of way that would allow me to access fans when needed and the ability to secure them. I used industrial velcro, it is tough to see, but the top velcro pad is one piece and the part that is attached to the fan and rad are cut. They are "held" together by the top piece. The left one does not have the top velcro attached for comparision.

As you can see here...there is NO room to spare. The Optical Drive is right up against the 92mm fan. Also the clearance between the side of the optical drive and the H100 Rad is TIGHT, they are touching.

Overall, happy with the outcome. If you are the type that needs EXTREMELY neat and tidy, this case is not 100% for you. I have 2 x 3.5" Drives and could likely fit 2 more with clearance to the GTX 660, anything longer and we are looking at tight spaces.

Overall, she is quiet and I am happy with the temps. This has moved from being some sort of HTPC / Home Server to a new computer for my nephew. Thanks to a few friends in the industry I was able to do this for next to nothing.

I'm going to buy a HTPC just like yours.

My current configuration is:

Case: Silverstone Grandia GD07 (??? euros)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO/THUNDERBOLT (220 euros)
CPU: INTEL 1155 CORE I7 3770K 3.50GHZ 8MB BOX (296,85 euros)
CPU Cooler:NOCTUA NH-L12 LOW PROFILE. (51,95 euros)
GPU:ASUS GEFORCE GTX660 DIRECT CU II 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E (239,8 5 euros)
Power Supply: SEASONIC X-660 (151,4 0 euros)
SAMSUNG SERIES 830 128GB 2.5" SATA III (95,85 euros)
HDD:2X WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR GREEN 1TB 7200RPM 64MB SATA III 3.5 (72,95 X2 euros)
Memory: CORSAIR PC3-12800 1600MHZ 16GB VENGEANCE LP CL10 (2X8GB) DDR3 (73,55 euros)
Optical drive: ASUS BC-12B1ST BLU RAY (63,35 euros)

Total: 1338 euros (without the case...)

I posted a thread here too. I want to make it better and silent, I need an opinion from people that really knows about this, and this forum seems to be great :-D

Good luck for your build.

I used that case for my father in law's build. Beautiful case but airflow is not so great. You knew that when you looked at it though. It's nice and quiet. A long video card is going to get in the way of the hard drive cages though, which is another beef I had with it but you are probably using onboard so no big deal. Enjoy!
Edit: I just spotted the H100. Where the heck are you going to mound that?

So I knew going in that the H100 would be a challenge, but for the price that I got it for I had to try and use it.

The H100 by itself, no fans fits perfectly. There would be no way to have 2 x 120mm fans mounted internally. You could go and mount them externally, but that would look ugly in my opinion and defeat the case design.

So I went with 2 x 92 mm fans. Here is the test fit. I will need to secure them via some strong tape on the top, but I am not worried about it coming loose. (sorry for the crappy phone pic, my DSLR is at the studio.

I plan on sealing up any areas in the case that are not occupied by fans. All air (excluding the video card's exhaust) will be forced out the H100 direction.

There is only room for ONE 80mm fan on the backside, and that will be forcing air into the case.

Thoughts?

I haven't been on this thread for a bit. Did you get that running? How ate the temps if so?

Sorry for the double post, but you have two fans on that. Isn't there only a vent on the side for a single fan? Is that second fan just blowing against the radiator instead of through it?

I have not yet moved too much forward, busy with work and a few shoots.

there are two 120mm openings on the side.

waiting on a hook up to come through on the video card, then I will push forward.

My apologies, I got my cases mixed up. The one I built with had two 80mm fans on the back, right behind the processor and a grill on the side for adding another single 120 mm slim fan.
