Need help on deciding between the two RAM sets that I own

Thread Starter
I bought my rig the other day off of my brother pre-built with "4GB DDR3 G Skill Ripjaws 2000mhz" installed, then my brother bought me "8GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1600mhz"
My question is; Should I use the first set, the second or both at the same time?
I know little about RAM and I'm not sure if mixing dual channel memory is beneficial, nor do I know if it's beneficial to mix RAM with different clock speeds.
Thanks in advance.

I'd go with the 8Gb option, in apps RAM size usually matters a lot more than RAM speed.

Thank you, so it wouldn't be a good idea to use both RAM kits alongside each other and run 12GB of RAM at different speeds?

i would just stick with the 8GB option personally. but if you add that 4GB G.Skill all RAM must be configured to run at the same voltage which is the main spec that needs to match.

The following conditions do not need to be met:

Same brand
Same timing specifications
Same speed (MHz)
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-011965.htm#dual
tho the faster RAM will run at the slower RAM speed

and using the g.skill kit will probably run in flex mode or you may have to set this in BIOS and also if supported

I mixed 2x2's and 2x4's and they worked fine even though they were at different speeds.
