Let's think logically. Would you buy a product knowing it was going to break. You go to your wife to justify it and you tell her "It was a good name, if it has a good name it was worth buying"

Welcome to brands, they are a part of every industry. I wouldn't do what you mentioned, but other people would. People like brand associations, it makes them buy things.

I don't think every pair of those headphones break, if they did there would be a class action lawsuit against Monster. Plus, if you don't drop them, they wont break.

Let's think about the fashion industry logically. Would you buy a £5,000 piece of cotton and say to your partner "It's worth it because it's folded and sewn in a certain shape?". You wouldn't think so, but people do it every second of every day. It's easy to make something sound stupid.

Wasn't saying that Beats break easy. It's more or less an example. Sorry about sentence structure.

I have no issue with the products themselves (speaking of hyped up name brands), what I have a problem with is their overpricing, and the fact that their marketing tries to tout them as the 'BEST THINGS EVAR!' and the ads are aimed right at the most commonly uninformed people. And when you try to explain to those people that there are better options for MUCH cheaper, they get incredibly defensive and refuse to hear you. Those people I like to call idiots.

Look I don't care if you LIKE something like Beats, but there is no logical argument for their price and why anyone would pay that much, beyond the name. It the same thing with Monster Cables, and with Bose, they're mediocre but marketed like they're the best things in their respective markets, and people who don't know better, get conned into buying them all the time.

I would agree... I'm using Jensen subwoofers...The brand use to be available at Walmart and in the subwoofer community walmart subwoofers are crap (They really are...) Anyway...My subwoofers kick harder then kickers which are said to be a higher end product. Truth is, they never sold my Jensen's at walmart. But the brand name doesn't have a good rep. Still, they are some of the better subwoofers i've used.

Can you show me somewhere that Monster has advertised the beats as sounding good or being the best thing ever? They've always been marketed in terms of how they look.

The argument for their price is their design. You pay for the look, just like clothes. These just happen to produce sound too. Calling someone an idiot based on their purchase of what they want is incredibly ignorant.

I bet you hate MacBooks too because they cost more than the PC equivelant? Are people idiots because they but MacBooks too?

And I think people that pay more than $20 for a pair of jeans or a shirt are idiots too. Brands are such a stupid cash cow and people's competitive nature makes them want something that has a higher price tag. Because name and price are what makes a product good right?

Also, I was using the 'best things ever' as a colloquial, about all those brands, watch any Bose commercial and you'll see what I mean... 'Our 3-2-1 system is just as good as a full surround setup, without the extra speakers and wires' Sorry, that's just not physically or technologically possible.

And here's a quote right from the official Beats site
Quote:
The company's mission is to provide a superior end-to-end music experience - with headphones, devices and services - so fans feel the emotion and hear the music the way artists intended it to sound from the studio.

Again, sorry, overloading the bass/lfe channel in a set of stereo headphones and charging over $100 for them doesn't make them sound studio quality.

As I expected. Bunch of arguments about Beats and do dats

I would read the first 4 pages of the thread. The rest is trash, imo.

Yes, they are overpriced. However, they are nice looking. Sound quality is meh.

Not much of a sound expert. That's all I can give you

Most people pay over $20 for jeans. Cheap jeans go scratchy in the wash, even $70 ones that I buy don't and ar still holding their colour/feel well after 3 years. I'd have bought more than two or three pairs of cheap jeans to replace them over that same time period. So by buying a good brand of jeans, I've actually saved money, looked better and been more comfortable. I'm such an idiot.

Actually in terms of positional audio, they have a point. And their acoustimas subwoofer is nothing to be scoffed at.

Hm, I've never seen them mentioned as sounding good anywhere but the website. All other marketing for them is based solely on looks. Admittedly in terms of a frequency response graph they're bad, but when you take all factors into consideration, they're actually above average. AKG K451's define average for that price range.
