OK, now I have problems

I don't know what's going on here, I'm hoping it's software related but am clueless at the moment. Last night I removed my IHS off my Opty. I had no problems with it last night, but it was getting late when I did it so I didn't have much of a chance "play with it". I tried overclocking it for about an hour or so, but didn't get very far so I shut it down for the night.

Today, I fired it up at my old OC of 2.8 GHz, 1.33 vcore. No problems with that. I started taking screenshots of my temps at idle, as I always do. I used 2 versions of Speedfan, 1 version of Core Temp, and 2 versions of CPU-Z (all at the same time). Also, Smartguardian (DFI temp monitoring that came with the mobo) was running in the background in an unopened window. I hit printscreen, then opened paint to copy it. Shortly after that, it froze up. I reset my system and tried to do it all over again. When I first tried opening Speedfan, Speedfan threw me some kind of error that I can't remember what it said. I closed it and reopened it and it opened with no problem. I opened another speedfan and the PC completely shut down.

Then I decided to return to optimized default in the BIOS (stock settings, no OC). I rebooted and ran Prime 95 (2 versions, dual core) for around 45 minutes. No problems. I took screenshots of those temps as stated above (2 speedfan, 1 core temp, and 2 CPU-Z). No problems pasting them to paint. I checked to see if it saved, and it did. Then I took screenies of the idle temps. No problems until I realized my first screenshots were gone, they somehow disappeared. I pressed the print screen key and the computer froze up again.

Sorry about the novel, but I wanted to get as detailed as I could. Please tell me this is not hardware related. My PSU is showing complete stability throughout all of this.

try 1.35v. 1.33v is kinda low.

pretty much start from scratch again and before you run everything, do the good ole prime95 for 6 or so hours....

Sorry about the confusion, In my BIOS, I have it set to 1.35. Speedfan is showing 1.33 vcore. I've checked the vcore with a multimeter and it actually is right on at 1.35 vcore.

It used to be stable @ 2.6 GHZ @ 1.3 vcore.

Once you get above 2.6 or so with Opteron's you need to add additional voltage. How much is the question. For instance me, I have to get to 1.525 volts to obtain stability at 2800Mhz, but then my temps get around 53* to 56*. I would think if you gave it around 1.45 or so it would get you stability you want and keep you temperatures down too. Once you hit the barrier with Opteron's sometimes it takes quite a bit of voltage to get you above and beyond.

I know steppings seem to mean everything with the different opertons and you have supposedly the best one...To run stable I have to get 1.4 vcore @2.8 with my chipset up from 1.5 to 1.6 and my ht voltage from 1.2 to 1.25..The only thing I have to really pump any v through is my ram because I run it tight and high

try 1.4v then if its not stable you have to move it up.

Seems stable under P95, I ran 6 hours at stock settings (1.8 ghz) and 5 hours at 2.8 GHZ without upping the vcore.
