Pump in 5.25 bay. Not bay reservoir.

Thread Starter
I was wondering if it's possible to mount a pump in a 5.25 bay without messing up the flow. I plan on going with a tube reservoir because I love the look, but I need somewhere to stick my pump and the bottom of my case is going to be filled with rads tongue.gif .

I know you want the pump under the reservoir usually, but what if I tipped the case to make sure water was fed into the pump until I got the loop filled? Would everything work okay once it was filled and running? Would this put too much strain on the pump, or not even work at all?

Here is the plan:

Sorry about the paint skills.

I would appreciate anyones advice; this is my first water cooling setup. Thanks smile.gif

No man, that is wayyyy bad, have the pump BELOW the res at all times, else tube res arent the best because of looks, but because of ease of bleeding and volume, also harder to leak. (looks too)

Haha, yeah. I'm aware they are much easier to bleed than a bay res. It's the looks that make me want it though, otherwise I'd just go for a bay reservoir.

Thanks for answering my question though, back to the drawing board!

I am actually strongly considering setting mine up in a similar way, excepttthat I have a second reservoir to get around to elevation issue. Something like an XSPC single bay res, which is what I went with, will allow you to have the good bleeding of the tube res while putting your pump in the bay.

Or get a tube res that a MCP655 or a MCP35x can attach to the bottom. If I were to use a tube res on my other setup I would get one that a MCP655 could attach too.

This is how I have mine set up, pump and res seem to be close to what I think you are shooting for.

Awesome. Thanks for the ideas guys. I think I'm going to hide it somewhere on the bottom of my case behind something....

Or save up some more money and buy a reservoir top like DarkHollow suggested. Depends on money and space, the banes of computer building.

Yea, I am looking at my PCs and between watercooling and an upgrade or two it would be around $500/$600. It would be almost $300 for the cooling setup. (It would be all new in a secondary rig) Money I don't have right now tongue.gif Always the limiting factor eh?

Haha yup. I might just wait for income taxes to come in before I build my new rig. More water cooling possibilities.
