Time for an upgrade!

Thread Starter
Hey everybody, I've been out of the tech world loop for way, way too long and it's time I got back up to speed. Just ignore my specs in my sig, I'll have to go update that eventually.

Let's get right to it!

I've got an old 8800GT in my system right now. Love the thing and all but I need to start looking at new options.

I play at 1920x1080, I'm looking forward to Far Cry 3 and Crysis 3, I'd like a single card solution that can play at the upper settings and I'd like to spend no more than $300

I don't know what the bang for the buck cards are right now or if there is new tech around the corner or anything like that. I'm not a in a super fast hurry to buy either so I'm more than willing to wait things out.

Cheers

For exactly 300$ you will get a 7950 which is a very good price in comparison to to the Nvidia gtx 670 which cost around 340 and doesn't oc as much. If you want something cheaper then go for a 7870 or a 7850. A gtx 660 is in my opinion overpriced (costs about as much as a 7950). It is never as good as the 7950 especially with the new 12.10/12.11 beta drivers.

Then again of you want physx go Nvidia.

I see that you have a Core duo cpu which will be a bottleneck with any modern gpu. Also I'm not sure if that's a pcie 2.0 or pcie 1.0 slot on your mobo. If it's a pcie 1.0 slot you will loose 10-15% of the graphicscard performance if not more.

Ati's 7950 will be a great choice in your case

or if you want to go with Nvidia again a 660ti will be nice

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121656

These 2 GPUs are very good for 1080p.

However I am not too sure how your CPU will support them as I am not too familiar with your CPU.

+1 for the 7950.

I believe both of the games you want to play are Nvidia favored. For $300 I recommend Sli GTx480's. You can get the cards on craigslist/online for sometimes around $150 each. They are the best performing cards in their price range. With two of them, U can play everything maxed out, including Crysis and FarCry. Nothing around that price comes close.

Well I had made a note that my signature WAS out of date but I guess I didn't realize how many people are quick to use it.

I've updated it with current information for anybody that it will make a difference to.

Not to let you down. But if Crysis 3 retail perform like the Alpha. The 7950 will suffer ....
No single GPU of this generation will max it out at 1080p
