Headphones for 80% gaming, 20% music ?

Thread Starter
So, many ages ago when I was in to gaming I remember I would never play without a soundcard. The difference was immense. Keep in mind this was also roughly 15 years ago. Since then I strayed in my recent builds for on-board audio. I really want to make the switch again.

To give you an idea of my hearing I bought some corsair usb gaming headphones (model before vengeance) and was blown away by the sound quality in stereo rolleyes.gif. You audiophiles can laugh. I'm missing some of my hearing so anything better than tin cans and string I can probably appreciate. tongue.gif

After actually researching sound and reading the stickies here I thought I would ask before making a purchase.

As per the template.
1. Budget: maximum $75 (cheaper the better)

2. Music: Industrial and rock mostly

3.Perks: gaming sound stage with a little bass

4. Products: I plan on purchasing a refurb creative x-fi titanium and throw some PAX drivers on it.

5. How I am going to use: At home mainly with my PC

6. Shops: I'm in the U.S. and will probably order from Amazon or Newegg

If anyone has a good recommendation over the headphones listed in the stickies I would like to check them out. It would be nice if there is a mic if not, no biggie.

Thanks

What sort of games do you play? the Samson RH600s are better for "natural sounds", less bass than the SR850s, and have better sound for FPS type games.

when you play FPS, do you play for fun or do you play competitivly?

I would go with the Samson SR850/Superlux HD668B if you want more immersive/fun gameplay and the RH600 for competitive games.

this is a good question to ask. not everyone is looking for the best competitive advantage possible, at the sacrifice of sound quality.

With whatever headphone you decide to go with, get this mic. It'll offer a lot of freedom when it comes to choosing headphones because you dont have to worry about sacrificing sound quality for an added microphone.

I got it and its great. Still looking for replacement headphones though. I wish I could try the Samson or JVC HARX700's before I decide which one I want. rolleyes.gif
