7 wins for me i'm used to the standard windows platform (ie start menu) but, it does boot up faster and seems to run as fast as 7.

Whereas I could simply type "dev man" and hit enter in W7 to open that control panel (before the search results even appeared, no less), in W8 I have to type out my search, hit down arrow twice to highlight "control panel", hit space to select it, THEN mouse over to the search results area and pick out the item I want to open. It's more frustrating when I'm not sure whether the thing I want is a program or a control panel.
I don't know if it's a deal breaker on its own, but things like that are really keeping me from liking W8 more than I could be.

I don't know. I just type "cont" and mash enter and I'm control panel. As you say before the results have even come up. Or just right click the bottom left corner when in desktop mode and go into control panel.

Sigh. Sorry. I told myself I would stop doing this :/

I'm still on W7, but I'm running Windows Server 2012 and i find it easy to navigate. I might move up to W8 in a few months.

Not sure if you're aware of it, but right clicking in the bottom left corner will give you a menu in which you can access control panel, as well as a ton of other convenient tools you'd use to manage your computer. Since I figured that out, all I really use the search function for is for programs, which is the default selection, so everything still works smoothly for me. Granted, it is a bit annoying they split everything up, but I hope this helps a bit at least!

There are pros and cons about both. 8 is faster, and it's also infinitely better when using a touch screen. The start screen grows on you (though it needs more customization and better optimization for mouse users).

On the other hand, 7 looks better. Aero will never be "dated and cheesy" to me...especially with the Soft7 theme. I've though about going back to 7 just to use that theme.

Are games in steam not 100% compatible with windows 8?

How does 7 look better, they are identical?
8 has square corners, 7 has round, that's a matter of taste. I prefer square.
Both have aero and glass effects. What's better looking in 7? smile.gif
