Not even close. The market does not hinge on PC gamers (not counting Facebook and browser based games), which make up an incredibly small and insignificant percentage of computer users.

Don't even get me started on OpenOffice or LibreOffice being superior to MS office. rolleyes.gif Difference being the former two are a joke while the latter is a real productivity suite. Perhaps if the only thing you use Office for is typing term essays, you can get by with them. But to suggest that those programs have anything that can even shake a stick at the advanced functionally of Excel, Outlook / Exchange, Visio or Project (and even OneNote) is just crazy.

I use Google Docs/Drive.

Most of the people I know (with a few exceptions) have computers to do everything typical including playing video games.

I have had just 3-4 hours of experience with Windows 8 so far. I picked up a laptop on a Black Friday sale that came with Windows 8 installed. I must say that I haven't been repulsed by software as much in the past. Windows 8 is a disastrous and inconsistent mess. I will be returning the portable and switching to Apple Mac OS or Linux from now on. I can't believe Microsoft would abandon the well received, well liked GUI that started from Windows 95/NT for this. The "tablet GUI" paradigm does not suit a notebook/desktop very well. I am also disgusted with Microsoft's sleazy tactic to trick you to sign into your own computer with a "Microsoft" account instead of a local account. What happens when your network goes down or your microsoft account gets highjacked? Also the "Store" does not let me install any free applications without having this "Microsoft" account. This tactic is very reminiscent of late 90s Microsoft attempt to shove IE into your throat, whether you liked it or not. If you used Netscape, you were simply a second class citizen on Windows 95/98.. but this is just worse. Great job Microsoft. For me, this OS represents one big descent into mediocrity.

I tried Windows 8 on my ULV notebook and as an OS it is a great break from the past in terms of the UI. My issue was with driver support, so I had to go back to Windows 7. I will likely be putting Windows 8 onto my gaming PC after a few of the incompatible apps get updates from their developers in the coming months.

My workstation will be sticking with Windows 7 for the foreseeable future as it is one of the main tools I use for my livelihood and can't afford an unproven OS taking it out for any length of time. I will use Vista as a example, upon release it was a turd but after the second service pack it became a fast and usable OS that I still use to this day on my workshop 3D rig.

Absolutely. (Well, if I don't get Win 7 on this PC). MacOS X is a fantastic OS. Windows 7 also was pretty good. But Windows 8? Is it a tablet OS? A desktop OS? It seems like it tries to be two things at the same time, and fails. There is a start screen and an imitation of the old Windows desktop. Clearly, the "Desktop" is the second class citizen. I must say that I envision that this OS will be the downfall of Microsoft in the enterprise, where choosing an operating system is a matter of getting the job done, not deciding a beauty contest. IT departments are usually very conservative and often short on staff. They won't stand for this.

If this PC was for myself, I might have kept it. This horrible OS would just make my go back to Linux, which I was using all way from 1999 until Windows 7 came along. However, I am setting up for an elder relative, and I am really in no mood of spending more than a few hours on "setup" of this machine. The way it is now, it will be a disaster for me. I will end up being their tech support person for an indefinite period of time. It's better to get rid of this PC before it's too late. Black Friday savings be damned.
