Recommendations, anyone?

Thread Starter
Im looking for some new RAM for my moms computer that she is upgrading. I gave her my old P5ND2-SLi board and I was wondering what RAM I should buy her. Im looking in the 1 gig area but I dont know what brand to go with. Should I go with PC5400 and possibly overclock it a little or should I try to spend a little more cash and get the PC6400 (and since the board will only go to 5400) overclock it a little? But the thing is that the 6400 sticks that I was looking at were 5-5-5-whatever and the 5400's were 4-4-4-12. Does the latency matter? Which would you guys recommend? Any brands by the way? I was just going to go with Corsair but if you guys think another brand is better please let me know.

Go with the PC5400, that's good enough for upto 266fsb and I'm sure you're using a 200fsb CPU which means you'll have a 66mhz fsb headroom to overclock.

That Corsair XMS2 is pretty decent, I have a set but in the 2GB kit and I went from 333mhz to 442mhz with only a 2.20v and 4-4-4-8 CAS.

Good luck with that nForce 4 chispet and overclocking.

I dont plan on super overclocking the computer my mom is upgrading. I might not even touch it and leave it alone. She doesnt really do that much stuff on it, but my brother plays CS on it. So really that computer wont need to be blazing fast.

Personally for that price I recommend the (same RAM that you have right now I guess):
Corsair XSM2 DDR2 675 or Patriot DDR2 667 LLK Link Here.

Thanks for the info..

By the way, is having two sticks of 1 gig better than having 4 sticks of 512? Will the 4 sticks run in dual channel?

Yes, and it's much better when all 4 modules are identical.

On an Intel, it doesn't matter if 4x512MB or 4x1GB.

On an nForce it's a different story I believe.
