Ubuntu help???

I just instaled ubuntu (partion), and i have a small problem. I have a 7600 gs and i cant change the resolution any more then 1024x768 but my monitor supports 1280x1024. What do i have to do. Do i need a driver? How? Where?
My other partion is xp pro with all the updates. HELP...

From a terminal, run:

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then, scroll down to where it says "Screen" and has several resolutions, then paste in the folowing code at the bottom (before "EndSection"; it will make more snese when you see it):

SubSection "Display"
Depth24
Modes"1280x1024"
EndSubSection

that didnt work. I think i need a new driver. But the problem is i dont know wich one how to install etc. Please help i like the look of this.

Im new to any linux. How do i install a driver. Becouse currently i do not support 3d video. I have a chaintech nvidia 7600gs with gddr3. Please provide me a link and some instructions. Or one of those 2. any help is appreciated.

The driver:
Go to add/remove programs

then search for nvidia in the top search bar and get the one I highlighted.

That should do it, I've never done it as those pictures are for my second rig which has integrated intel graphics, and I've never installed Ubuntu on my main rig. If that does not work then, go search the Ubuntu forms, I'm 100% sure you'll find a thread that list how to do it in great detail.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg in terminal
