Piracy isn't an excuse not to make a game for a superior platform.

You obviously do not get it. "Piracy isn't an excuse" then why have the console versions of GTA IV sold more than the pc version 20:1? "Superior"? That's just an opinion, nothing more.

1. GTA IV's performance was abysmal on the consoles. Someone a couple pages back mentioned that they don't want to settle playing GTA V at 30 FPS at 720p. GTA IV couldn't touch those numbers on PS3; it was closer to 20-25 FPS at 640p. Somehow I beat the game playing that slow blurry mess, but I don't think I would have the patience to do it again. Playing it again on PC is MUCH more fun now that I can actually enjoy the beautiful graphics.

2. I prefer GTA on PC and I don't hate controllers and I don't care only about graphics, like some in this thread have suggested. I use a 360 controller when playing IV on the PC. I just hate the limitations of 8 year old hardware that ruin potentially gorgeous visuals and kill performance.

3. This thread is giving the PC port of GTA IV way more hate than it deserves. IV runs beautifully for me: 60 FPS at 1080p and max settings. Granted I have a good computer, but it's not exactly bleeding edge hardware. 3 year old processor and almost 2 year old graphics card. The most annoying part is the GFWL integration but I can live with it.

[Edit] 4. The PC platform can't be blamed for it's low sales vs the consoles in GTA's case because the PC version is always released later. If they gave GTA V a Steam release at the same time as the consoles, I bet it would have very healthy PC sales.

It will be a real shame if there is no PC version released. I am holding out hope, but am also pessimistic because they skipped over RDR.

The hard reality would be the console versions would still sell out the PC version 5:1.

Because more people have consoles than PCs that can run GTA IV. Most people have a dual core laptop, 2GB RAM and use on board graphics. That, and most people thing you need to spend at least $3K on an alienware to run games whereas consoles are less than $300. To the average person getting a gaming PC is stupid unless you have a lot of money to burn.

Unless you factor in the low price for consoles, PC is pretty much objectively the superior platform. Only thing that would favor consoles would be if you just personally preferred the online communities and services. Otherwise, controls, graphics, mods, community, etc. is all in favor of PC as a platform.

the only reason consoles outsell pc is the long gap in between the releases, because people have to buy a console version and later a pc if they want to play it like if they live in 21 century

also now you going from 20:1 to 5:1 is better, as the R* investor info shows console/pc sales circa 4:1

anyway company that becomes known for fleecing its customer base and simply not caring, will sooner or later become hated and good luck then

From what I see GTAIV sold over 16 million units on the consoles. As far as I know it did not even reach 1 million sales on the PC. (VGChartz)

Stop using VGChartz, the site is garbage, does not track properly and does not take into account digital downloads.According to that site :

North America 0.00
Europe 0.65
Japan 0.00
Rest of World 0.05
Total 0.70

So GTA IV did not sell in the US then?

Anyone who uses that site as proof should be shot.biggrin.gif

Good...  when these devs fall behind the tech ledge don't come hollering when they go bankrupt when a PC dev drops a good game on the consol arena.

PC's are getting cheaper... u don't create for it, you will become mediocre developer.
