[vg24/7]Wii U eShop lets indie devs set prices and issue free patches

“That’s what we love about the new eShop, we have the power to price our products as we please, with just some basic guidelines from the big guys,” he said.

“We can set our own pricing and actually continuing on that by setting our own sales whenever we want. It is very close to what Apple and Steam are doing at the moment, and very indie friendly.”

On top of that, Nintendo doesn’t charge indies for patches, something which often leads to major delays on console games getting fixes.

This is awesome. I've spoke in the past about why consoles are struggling a bit in this new era where mobile gaming has taken a foothold, and my main point was that current-gen consoles (Wii, 360, PS3) don't have the kind of selection you see on mobile partially because it's not easy to just create a product and get it in front of people. Allowing devs to set their prices and update their game for free is a big step in the right direction. I'm still curious what the dev process is to get a game on WiiU's eShop, and how much it costs.

sweet deal, this looks like an awesome incentive for indie developers, since most people seem to think that 3rd party development really failed along the wii.
inb4 flop because of weak hardware/gimmicky controls

If anything, the freedom to run wild with new ideas in the indie scene + the new hardware capabilities could make for some truly ground breaking stuff.

I think its good that smaller devs will have the chance to truly create new experiences.

We've seen time and again with Sony that big name/established devs simply don't want to take risks, even if the hardware is there for them and kinect is basically a dance game peripheral.
