Someone... Please, for the love of god, kill this lady!!!! I think she broken....
Oh boy... So... yeah... Crazy lady, mosterous iphoto library. You know, same story as always, right? Well... Not so much.
I think this lady belongs in a loony house because she went freaking off the deep end and just kept falling... I mean, holy crap. The Beginning
It was a normal day over at Tech Land and my wonderful bench was adorned by many machines of hell and catastrophe. These machines were either eating their own children because of software problems, broken web browsers, failed hardware, or sending a tear down someone's eye do to pain and remorse. It was all the same... until this brute decided to come and crush my soul
The machine has a failed hard drive. No big deal. I get an approval to put in a new hard drive and threw it into the pile for Bob to call.A day passes
I get work approved on this lady (lets call her Lady C. C for crazy). Anyways, I install a new 320gb drive in C's machine and get Lion going, iLife, all that good stuff. Then I try for the data. Drive doesn't want to mount right away, so I let it sit.An hour passes
COOL! Drive mounted. Now, lets see about that data shall we? Customer has 3 things that I need to get the data from. A folder called C and another called D on the root of the drive, plus the Users folder. Alright, lets get some hardcare cp -Rp action going on here. I start pulling data from the C folder. All seems well as this folder is only 19GB in size. I let it sit as it was taking its time.
I go off to work on another machine (that is eating my face. More on that in the next post). About 30 minutes later, I hear the drive power down (click, spin down). O-o Okay... Well, lets hope things are fine. I check to see how much data I got. 7GB. Not bad for a drive that is dying... but the drive no longer mounts. O_o wut?
I let the drive sit for about an hour and come back to it. Still nothing. I look at it the next day. Nothing... Time to make someone cry (as this lady had 20k of pictures on this drive). Throw in a note so Bob can give the customer a call.3 Hours Later
Bob has not gotten to his pile of calls to do when C calls in. He explains the situation and she just goes into him and begins to rip out his soul. She carried on about guaranteeing we could get her data for the X rate we charge and that it has been there for 3 days and no one has called... e-e Then proceed to demand to want her machine repaired by 9AM the next day.
1) We do not guarantee anything about data.
2) We will ATTEMPT to get your data at the service charge.
3) The machine has been there for only 2 days...
4) We have contacted her once a day before to get an approval for the new drive.
5) It is 5 in the evening, we close at 6. I just got your OS installed and have not even installed the Combo Update, software, or any other updates. Plus I got an onsite at 930AM. There is no way in hell your machine will be done...
I got a better idea. How about I just give the machine back EXACTLY where it is right now. OS only, no bottom case screws in it. e-e There is no reason for you to act like this C....
Bob does his best to explain to her everything again (I think expectations were not set correctly... OR she didn't understand). Bob then continues to explain about how the drive has failed and that it has to go up to data recovery (drive compass baby!!!). Customer hangs up the phone... Bob is pissed.... and we got a pissed off customer.
Bob talks with the GM about how he should proceed and calls the customer back. Explains exactly how things played out (time I installed the drive, to time I attempted to get data to when the drive started acting up) and told her when she comes in he will explain everything again and what we can do.
I come back from my onsite, got all the software and updates installed. Customer came in... and somehow got a free data recovery...
