Customer comes in with an old Early 2006 MBP... job says "System running hot. Gets hot under left speaker, then shuts down" Okay... That is REALLY descriptive. e-e
I look at the diag notes and see nothing's wrong. Passed 10 loops ASD, ran for 45 minutes playing youtube (7 instances), no issues... BUUUUUT the hard drive has at 6 bad blocks. e-e
At this point I am thinking things are pretty straight forward. I love straight forward jobs. Quick and easy numbers. Well... NOPE
Okay. Go grab a 320... wait... THERE ARE NONE!
Okay... 500GB. I put the drive in and put a note in so the super can call the customer for an approval.3 days passed
APPROVAL! Yeah. Okay work time. I go to install Snow Leopard and the install fails. Um... wut? Put new RAM into the system. Still fails. Change hard drive cable. Fails.
At this point I am am stressing. One last thing. Target disk install. Fails.
I have no idea what is going on. At this point I am thinking it is a bad logic board so I go let it be for a while.The end of the day
Larry comes down and I run it by him. This guy always seems to know how to fix something. Well... 2006 machine is running SATA 1.5. The 500GB drive (WD5000BPKT) is SATAII. SATA II should down clock itself to SATA right? Well that is not the case. Well. 320GB drives came in today so I poped one and... and... IT WORKS! OMG YES!
Well... I still gotta get the data off the drive...
