FUUUUUU MOUNTAIN LION!!!! GAHAHAuhasdiufhasiudnhfuiabewghnSFRiuyaWSE$FRYIUbgnhazsweÏ˝ˇ¨ˆnhbaejswuiFgr
Hey guys, long time no post. Work is hectic and I come home as a zombie every night and play Hawken.... all... night... long (and I have actually gotten pretty good in it too
Anyways, this one is a REAL pain the pass and as some of you ACMT's and others know, 10.8.5 breaks things...
This really nice guy comes in and he wants a bigger hard drive and his MacBook Al upgraded to Mountain Lion. Well, that should be a piece of cake right? RIIIIIGHT?
My brother is now working with me at the shop, which is great... or not so great... either way, he does the work on the machine. You pop out the drive, throw it onto the disk jockey, select copy disk, and clone to a new drive. Afterward, rebuild the volume with Disk Warrior, expand with iPartition, and upgrade to mountain lion. Done...
OOOORRRR maybe not...
The guy comes by and pick it up (lets call him Gary) and takes it home and is happier than a clam. Guy gets home... and wireless is not working. When it was when it left.. Strange... Not sure if serious
I have him bring it back in.Two Hours Pass
Gary comes back in and I take a quick look at the machine and his wireless is not working. If you look at the wireless icon, you can see that the wireless is turned off and you can turn it back on, but it fines no wireless networks. If you got into network preferences, you cannot turn on the wireless at all. it is almost like the system doens't know how to talk to the wireless card properly. Either way. In 5 minutes I try something to see what it does and it appears to work.
Under /Library/Preferences/ you have a fold called SystemConfiguration.
This folder has all the plists that control everything from wireless top power management. If something happens in here, things break... badly.
So, a trick is to dump the folder out of the machine and reboot. Any kind of system level config will be reset and if a custom setting was created, they will have to be redone. The system will recreate new plists and defaults, so no worries. The wireless is now working... or is it?30 minutes later
Gary calls back and says it is not working... again.
I tell him to bring it back and i mess with it more.... After reboot after you reboot stuff stops working.
Archive and install?
Aright... bad update...
Rerun each update but forget to only run one at a time...
Archive and install again, running each update at leads to? DING DING DING 10.8.5 update breaks the wireless.
Archive and install again, leave at 10.8.4 and hide the 10.8.5 updates. Run all other updates and system works fine again!
w00t Only took me 3 days to figure it out.
