You're confusing memory speed with memory bandwidth.
In any DDR memory, the acutal clock rate is half of the effective rate as you're describing. Thus a 1600MHz module operates at 800MHz actual speed. When two modules are placed in a dual channel configuration, this doubles the effective bandwidth, but the speed of each stick remains constant.

Good job explaining it to me, though. I especially enjoyed the condescending attitude.
I wasn't trying to be condescending. I was confusing memory speed and bandwidth though ;) You're right, I was wrong.
It does make me wonder if I would see a bump in PPD if I went to quad-channel, instead of the dual-channel config I'm running now.
