The dreaded lockup and freeze

My system is in my Sig Rig:

I just started experiencing this for the first time today. The PC locks up and have to restart, no warning message or anything at all, i can tell when its locking up because my movie freezes first and then the rest of the system follows after about 5 seconds.

I did disable the page file according to a post that shows you how to set up for an SSD i don't know if that may be the problem?? Also i disabled write caching or something a while back the warning message said it could cause problems in the event of a blackout..

other than that i don't know where to start looking for solutions but ive been hearing that a bad PSU may be the cause, is there any software that i can run in the background that can record everything to a notepad??? CPU-Z?

my overclock passed 15min of prime

First of all, Dude, really.

You blow $500 on a GPU, $300 on a CPU and you get microcenter own brand memory? Really, are you kidding me? Get that crap out and replace it with some samsung memory.

Secondly,

15 minutes of prime does not mean your machine is stable. 8 Hours of prime means your machine is stable, coupled with the crappy memory you threw in there I'm not surprised it's freezing. Run Prime on large FFTs (max heat, some memory used) and 30 runs on intel burn test. I'd be shocked if it passed IBT.

Sorry i forgot to update my Sig Rig, Im currently running 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600, those 4GB of MicroCenter Ram were great though! The PC only seems to Lock up when I'm watching my show "Revenge" (Great show!) using VLC player... When I'm not watching the show i get no lock ups I'm not sure why that is??

Im going to run prime 8hrs today while at work, Question: If the CPU gets too hot under prime will it automatically shutdown or stop??

First of all it was do what's called a thermal throttle to bring the temperature down, if that fails then it'll shut down the machine.

Have you tried another player? The one in the k-Lite codec pack?

Oh actually, just download IBT and run that on maximum for 10 runs, if that fails then i'm afraid your OC is unstable.

P.S Pleased you changed the memory though biggrin.gif

So the overclock is the most likely bet? I hope so, I haven't tried any other settings its at stock voltage, I'll run some test and downclock if failed i don't feel like overclocking anymore right now lol thumb.gif

Actually I don't feel like dealing with it anymore lol I under locked to 3.6 and if it lockup again I guess I can rule out the CPU..

Wait, it's at stock voltage???

Yep, it's your overclock, up the vcore a bit and it'll be fine. Just pump through 1.20v and then up it from there for stability.

Even with the CPU under locked it froze while copying a movie to my iPhone.. I'll have to do some testing to see what is causing this, could it be the PSU??

Syncing with iTunes causes an immediate lockup, this is odd, what program will record the fail??

Whilst I'm not a great fan of coolermasters, that shouldn't be the issue.

Have you checked your hard drive with HDTune, since it's copying data it could be related to that.

HD tune didn't even Finnish before it froze, when i try to copy the movies to my phone using diffrent software it still freezes! it must be the SSD, but i thought SSDs were fail proof mad.gif
