[Guru3D] GeForce 310.61 Beta Driver Released - Page 3

If the reason that this driver doesn't work correctly is my driver installing skills™ lacking, tell me why I have no BF3 crashes with 306.97 or any older driver than that rolleyes.gif Also, I never had any real driver problems until I upgraded from Fermi to Kepler. Kepler drivers so far have been sub-par, there's been loads of problems with performance in GW2 for example.

Nvidia confimed the problem on Guru3D forum:
Quote:
This driver is a small iteration on 310.54. Quad 690 and BF3 fixes should hopefully appear in the UDA, but I do not have an ETA for that at this time.

Take that you smug "I'm better than you at driver installing" people.

The 310.54 drivers for me are pretty decent even when overclocking.

EDIT:
Well every game I play except WoW likes overclocking anything beyond stock and Nvidia driver has stopped responding and recovered error happens.

I keep hearing on OCN how AMD won this round. Except that when you release a product and it takes 6 months to get it working right, you've already dropped the price and lost a hefty percentage of profits from it. AMD might have won this round on OCN but Nvidia made the money.

Exactly. And I don't like the terms 'won' or 'king', because even if the majority of games goes to one card or the other, it's always by a relatively slim margin, an unnoticeable difference too. So I think, first of all, that small amount of frames isn't what I would call a clear-cut victory, once you add in all the other factors, many of which subjective on top of it. Neither company is going to pull away by a noticeable difference anytime soon.

And, either way, AMD owners are just now enjoying the performance we've had all along, so if they want to call that a victory then I don't know. And it's by such a small margin, I think they would just be better off being happy with what they have now instead of trying to rub it in our face, because next round Nvidia may release another monster die, be a clear-cut 'winner', and now all that's going to happen is everyone is going to do the same thing to them that they did to us, and the cycle of those stupid arguments will continue. If more people would start enjoying what they have without having to try to justify their purchase or push it upon others by saying it's better than what someone else has, this would be a much friendlier place smile.gif

AMD's 7970 GE, which is still cheaper then a GTX680, beats the GTX680 in more games then the 680 beats the 7970GE. This is at stock, everyone knows how well GCN scales with a OC so no need to go there. Also a Overclocked 7970 doesnt beat a OCed GTX680 by a small margin, in fact some games it can be 10-20% faster. Also the 7970 handles the more GPU intensive games better it seems, even BF3 with the 12.11 drivers seem to have out done the great lead that nvidia had. BF3 now belongs to the 7970 if I do say so myself. The 7970 is just the most capable card out there, and if one is luck to run theirs @ 1300mhz then you will need a GTX680 @ 1500mhz to match witch pretty much will not happen. Plus the fact that the 7970/50 doesnt skimp out on the memory size is always a good reason to get the AMD cards.

AMD's card being good doesn't all of the sudden make mine not good. My point was just proven- Can't owners just be happy with what they have without trying to call people fanboys or keep shouting about someone's being better? And AMD owners can enjoy the extra 5fps, quite a noticeable difference indeed! I will now leave the brand I'm comfortable with and switch because of an imperceptable difference in a few games thumb.gif

I said I did not disagree, but starting out a post like that leads to a discussion that doesn't help anyone. At all. Just tired moderators and deleted posts.

Most people defending AMD start out with an insult for some reason. I guess AMD cards finally get the good drivers they should have had 8 months ago and they just get all cocky apparently. It's a shame how many discussions go downhill because of their name-calling.

You'd think people would be happy for both sides. This means faster video cards for us. biggrin.gif

Everyone's more comfortable with one more than the other. I don't see why 'different' has to mean 'better' or 'worse'. Plus, aside from small differences in framerates, the other features, software, specs, etc., are mostly subjective. Who's to say how much one person or another cares about power consumption? Or how much someone really likes PhysX? These are the reasons owners of both should be happy they chose their preference and are satisfied with it thumb.gif

im a big advocate of price:performance. even with pc builds I build with my clients and friends I always get the parts that gives them the most performance for the money (esp for gaming rigs). with my gtx 680 I felt like I paid a premium for nothing. like what I said from where I'm from they're much more expensive. a gtx 680 are usually priced at 22,000-23,0000. a reference gtx 670 is 15,900PHP. and the good ol' non-ghz edition 7970 is just 15,400. unbelievable. I could easily sell my gtx 680 and get a non-reference 7970 but like what you said I figured I should just settle with what I have. it doesn't make me feel good at all tbh

so far I've experienced zero issues with these drivers. im not getting the random crashes with dota 2. thumb.gif
