You stand corrected. AMD 990FX has 2-4 PCI-e x16 slots. Only the 990X has X16/X8/X8.

So the possibility of running a x16/x16/x16 set up is out of the question in AMD's case?
Hmm... i think it's likely to be the 3930K and a RIVE motherboard. Any other recommendations for the mobo? I'm planning on shipping either the M8 or SM8 to my location as the desired case... still undecided... who knew it would be so tough to build a nice computer ? lol hahaha not complaining though !
Maybe i should start a build log when time comes to buying all the stuff online (it's seriously overpriced in the stores here -.-).

I'm planning to slowly add cards till I get a tri-fire 7970 set up. But I'll be starting with a single 7970 first.
Was wondering if the bulldozer would bottleneck the tri-fire set up.

So you are ready to spend so much money on a CPU (3930K) and you are coming here on AMD forums to ask if the tri-fire bottlenecks ?! smile.gif
Not sure if you re trolling this section .
Just get the maximum you can afford mate AMD is for budget people in the first place..If you have the money get the finest.

In MOH Warfighter though the cheap 8350 owns some expensive chips there -> http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/medal-of-honor-warfighter-performance-benchmark,3336-7.html

the asus crosshair formula 5 is the baddest of the baddest 990fx chipset boards and will support easily tri-crossfire at x16 speeds or tri sli at x16 speeds too. the gigabyte 990fxa-ud7 is a close second along with the asus 990fx sabertooth.

So if I went with the 8350 and over clocked till 5Ghz or thereabouts I should be fine with the bottle neck ?
Or was there no bottleneck to begin with ?
Also would anyone dare fathom a guess at how many generations of trifire this bad boy will last till ? I plan to upgrade the cards at least twice before retiring the MOBO/CPU (maybe till 9XXX on the AMD series ? ) or is this just wishful thinking. Hmm ! This has really turned out to be and interesting ride !
I didn't know that X16/X16/X16 was possible on the 990 FX !
Hmm ! Looks like I'll be able to stay within my budget after all !
Thanks for the heads up dt_freak1 smile.gif

^this. well said, sir. +rep. if you think of budget rigs, you think of amd. budget rigs do not include multi-ti/high-end gpus.

if you can afford more than one high-end gpu, then why cheap out on the chip. does not to say you have to go with the sb-e. the 3770K would be more than enough.

If you are going for highend graphics as 7970 you should probably get the i7, but if you are looking for price performance AMD is the way to go obviosuly, but I don't see why you would go with a cheap CPU if you are throwing tons of money into the graphics.

EDIT: The tests above are not really relevant, it depends really what the PC will be for. In gaming there is hardly any difference betweent he cpus.

Gaming difference is Huge... Unless you are thinking i5 vs i7..... im talking Ivy Vs 8350.
