[MB] Anti Killer Robot Campaign Kicks Off. (VIDEO)

“It is essential to stop the development of killer robots before they show up in national arsenals,” Goose said. “As countries become more invested in this technology, it will become harder to persuade them to give it up.”“Giving machines the power to decide who lives and dies on the battlefield would take technology too far,” said Steve Goose, Arms Division director at Human Rights Watch. “Human control of robotic warfare is essential to minimizing civilian deaths and injuries.”

These robots would also undermine non-legal checks on the killing of civilians. Fully autonomous weapons could not show human compassion for their victims, and autocrats could abuse them by directing them against their own people. While replacing human troops with machines could save military lives, it could also make going to war easier, which would shift the burden of armed conflict onto civilians.

If our battlefields do become 100% robots, it'll be incredibly easy to counter.

There is emp shielding. I'm sure they would put that into a robot.

I am OK with Robot wars...imagine the wars of the future. Instead of blood being shed we would go to a stadium where teams of robots would battle it out and to the winner goes the spoils...or they can refuse and the surviving robots are unleashed on their now defenseless country.

Heh, never going to happen unless we can start some sort of utopian society or something, but after personally being immersed in a battlefield I have no issues with sending in a robot rather than people that I care about. Sucks for the tax payers though...not that training and fielding human is cheap either.

yah until that Taliban Robot goes and Blows up,

lol I think it is a bad idea to have too much Automoton Robotics, WHy not just build awesome Mech Suits, Humans are still better suited for the fighting.

As great as this idea is, it won't happen. The U.S. will probably just build them in secrecy and bruteforce others into not doing it.

Provided we don't actually invent AI...not even Virtual Intelligence...these robots would be nothing more than equipment. If we actually give them feelings...well that opens another bag.

The technology is not there yet by a long shot. Unless true AI start popping up. Human should at very least do the verify before shooting, etc.
