Have you read the original news announcement from NPR? The info is conflicting. I like to think after a bit of reflection that they planted something, and it showed signs of growth.

Anyway if they do find life on Mars that would be cool but we may end up becoming invaded by aliens who used that planet as a penal colony. Sup com anyone?

russians won the space race bro..

I have to agree there. I hate that the U.S seems to re-write history to their own specs. That being said, not to put too fine a point on it but Australia was used as a penal colony and they didn't turn out too bad thumb.gif

Something tells me they found something groundbreaking and swept it under the carpet just like everything else whilst the U.S government checks it out / has the monopoly on it. Just like the rumors that the U.S was funding the Germans in WW2 and didn't actually kill Bin Laden that've been flying about.

I have to admit, I hate the fact that everyone either seems to by lying about things or just not telling us for fear of what happens. Yeah as a race we're stupid, anyone working in customer service could tell you that but there are those few of us who'd like to know. Holding us back isn't helping development any!

Russians may won the space race but they're stupid to send a live human being up in space and they died for their country doing so. Ever watch Dark Matters?

Russians sent a few women and men in space without any preparations.

Risky yes but they "were" first human to be in space but unfortunately they never made it.

Forgive me if I'm wrong .. but wasn't the "Space race" a race to send a human into orbit and safely bring them back down to earth?

Even then, the Russians were the first to send any living thing into space. A Dog by the name of Laika.

First object in space, first living thing in space, first person in space, first satelite in space, first space station, first moon landing... the space race was about a lot of things. It's not like the USSR got a dog or a person in orbit and said, "alright, race over, we win." You play until everyone quits.

True, but isn't it a bit like everyone running a race and the last person to cross the line declaring themselves the winner ? Who really cares, it's who did it first. Sadly it's something that got lost to history because the last person shouted the loudest about it. Even then, the U.S supported Russia, up until they found out Laika died tongue.gif

The Soviet Union reached many milestones first, but the US had it's fair share of victories as well.

More American astronauts have suffered fatalities related to space fight than Soviet/Russian cosmonauts, even if you take into account a few likely deaths covered up by the USSR.

We have lost two shuttles, and two complete shuttle crews, amongst other catastrophes, after all...

The Space Race consisted of much more than this, and lasted decades past the first human safely retrieved from orbit.
