AMD FX Build - under $600 [Video Editing CS6 and Blender 3D] - Page 16

If you overclock you will need more power, from 125w to 250w or more on the cpu f.ex.
You should use a better psu calculator, but I'd say 700w for your rig.

500W will be fine. Your 560Ti 448 will consume about 200W, slightly more with an overclock WITH voltage increase. The remaining power is plenty for a hefty overclock on your CPU as well.

Don't listen to people who tell you to buy ridiculous amounts of power, you'd be surprised to how many people on here are misinformed regarding PSU's/how much power they need. I see it so often..

Would 500w even be overkill? Would I be able to manage with 400 or 450?

If you don't overclock the CPU yes you'd be fine with a QUALITY <- keyword there quality. 450W PSU. If you're gonna OC I'd stay with the 500W though. Those FX processors really ramp up the watts when overclocked.

Ok, thanks. And Does the gold/bronze 80 plus rating thing matter? I think I want a modular one for better cable management, but the efficiency thing is the only thing idk about

Yes it does matter. Let me give you an example. Let's assume your system pulls 400W total. Let me give you some examples of how that works:

A standard 80 plus PSU with an 80% efficiency rating would pull 480W from the wall while your system still consumes 400W. The other 80W is wasted as heat.

Now a platinum rated PSU with let's say a 90% efficiency rating would only pull 440W from the wall under the same load. Only 40W is wasted as heat.

It doesn't really matter but the wattage savings can really add up if your system is on 24/7 and pulls a lot of power. If you have a website you are buying from and a budget I can try to get you a good PSU.

Ok, I'm buying from pretty much any website, ncix, newegg, amazon, anythign on pcpartpicker basically. I'd like to have it as cheap as it can be, but i dont want to cheap out so much that it will be a crappy one. maybe under $100? $50?

Let me take a look. Do you just want something in the 450-550W range? Do you want any specific bronze/silver/gold/etc?

Not sure. I won't be running it 24/7 but it will probably be rendering a lot, maybe overnight sometimes. So if it doesn't cost too much more (like if its $80 more for the 90% vs 80% then its not worth it to me) then i'd like more efficiency.
