AMD FX Build - under $600 [Video Editing CS6 and Blender 3D] - Page 3

You can get good multi thread performance for your type of usage out of an fx8320 for a cheaper price, but you NEED to get a good mobo to use its potential. If you run it stock it will be i5 3570k's food lol
Really, do yourself a favor and overclock that cpu to 4.5ghz with a decent mobo, like the Gigabyte ones or Asus Crosshair/Sabertooth 990fx boards.

As for the ram Samsung 30nm 1600mhz cl11-11-11-28-1t 1.35v ram is wonderful, and will max out your integrated memory controller's capacity at 2133mhz cl10 or so. Can't get better than that on an FX chip, and it won't make a difference if you go higher.

Get a nice ssd like the Vertex or Agility 4 for the OS and voila!

Here's a foretaste of what Vishera can do:

I've bought (for the same apps as you) FX-8320 + 16GB 1866 RAM.
Wow nice, that is amazing. biggrin.gif
I think i'll get the GTX660 because its only $209 on newegg and you get assassins creed 3 for free, so -$50 that I would have spent. Where do I find this samsung 'wonder' memory? Might just get normal 16gb memory... dont really care for overclocking. For mobo I'm getting a good 990fx for sure. Thanks for the advice guys.
And could someone clarify if there is an actual difference between the different memory speeds in real life? (1333 vs 1600+)

There is a difference ram wise, get samsung 1600 cl11-11-11-28-15 1.35v 30nm ram from amazon or newegg, it's easy to find. Comes in a blue and white blister, has no heatsinks and the pcb is black and very slim.

So I should buy this ram? What if I'm not overclocking? I might just want to get cheaper ram and get 16gb...

Get two 2x4gb kits, it's one of the cheapest kits out there which happens to overclock quite good.
Plus at stock volts they perform good and draw less power, which is useful if your rig is processing big worloads for extended periods of time cause of proffesional cad work or so.
Saves you. Money in multiple ways boosting your productivity.

How about the motherboard? Would it be good for overclocking?

Another question. Can the programs I use even utilize all 8 cores of the cpu? After effects, premiere pro, photoshop (cs6 for all), blender 3d, handbrake, mpeg streamclip? Also do any games use more than a single core?

1) Yes. 2) Most games are not multitasking beasts wink.gif

It'll perform ok for gaming but much better suited for all tthe other software you menntion.
An nvidia gpu like the gtx 660 and that cpu will be your best bet for a budget build, as long as you have 16gb of the samsung ram.
And yeah gigabyte 990fx ud3 or ud5 are great and relatively cheap.
