Z77 supports up to 2800mhz. and i have seen 3000mhz ram run on it before.. great IMC.
What exactly will the higher mhz ram do for me? I have been using 1333 on my laptop and old desktop and havent had problems. Is there a noticeable difference if i go in the 2000+mhz?

About the gaming and single threaded stuff, I'm really not sure which games use the cpu or gpu the most or are single or multi threaded. I will also be getting games in the future, I think the 3770k for $230 is what I'm going to go for. I play CS:S, CS:GO, the assassins creed games, BF3 and bfbc2, possibly cod in the future, possibly dishonored maybe, tf2, portal 2, brink, and garrys mod (if this helps at all, i have no idea)
@ the person who said I should buy used... why? Wouldn't they just be less reliable crappier parts with no warranty? I would be especially afraid of buying used if it's going to be a $100+ dollar computer part (like a mobo, what if the person spilled water on it or something crazy).

I'd go for the used 16gb ram kit at least...
Used is good if you don't have a Microcenter nearby or don't live in the States. It's more of an anecdotal thing, or in case the 3770k after tax is more than you can spend, there's a 210usd 2600k which is pretty close in performance.

Look for a Ripjaws 16gb kit at the marketplace here, I'd buy that ASAP. You won't need more than 1600mhz cl9 but you WILL need 16gb or more for your needs. I'm a ram NUT and love high mhz and tight latency but I need that for benchmarking, cause I compete with a team. No need for that for most people, it will benefit you slightly...

Here is a compare of BF3 clock for clock.

And an Example of what Z77/Ivy Can do with Fast ram Via IMC.

Turn Vsync off.

What that is showing in gaming future proofing.

Also it shows the 8350 at 4.8ghz not being able to hold 120fps..
Which is Ideal for a FPS game with a 120hz monitor. "I have a 120hz monitor"

So i game at 120fps myself wink.gif cause i have a 120hz monitor.

Yeah, you don't need 120fps or more unless you have a 120hz capable monitor...but it's a smart move going with a better processor from scratch, I did that and don't regret the extra I had to spend.
Have you found the ram I talked about? Move fast...60usd for 16gb is cheap!

Prolly if you can lower timing to Cas 9

Or just get the Samsung Wonder ram and Overclock it.

Not likely to happen, 8gb sticks are on sucky IC's and most are slowish. 1866mhz cl10 on hynix is pretty decent, I'd go with that kit as it offers him the possibility of getting 32gb of ram, which he will most likely need. Remember the purpose of this rig! thumb.gif

Does windows 7 even support 32gb ram? wow.
Not sure I'll need that much. my old crappy desktop only has 4gb and I can do decent editing as long as I don't have like a 10 minute video and try to ram preview it all in ae lol
