On a side note I want to add that there are reasons not to pick up the cheap HDMI cables. If you run them into a wall they cable needs to meet fire codes. Different places have different laws for that kind of stuff. Just because you do not have a need for something, don't assume everyone doesn't have a need for it.

I used to work there and I can tell an endless list of tales about how the store was run. The management didn't care one bit if employees were lying to customers and giving them blatant misinformation (and they did this often)...if it got them a sale then they were happy. And heaven forbid they discover that an employee is actually tech savvy, they'll drop your hours and/or find some way to fire you, which is exactly what happened to me.
Best Buy needs to learn that this isn't how you do business. And they need to learn it the hard way.

.

I walk into Bestbuy just to laugh at the overpriced garbage they have to offer.

On numerous occasions, I would have older/less tech savvy people ask me what they thought they should get. I usually would get $20 or so for giving an honest answer.

Go on the AVS forum and tell people they don't need to have their TV calibration done and see how bad they rip you apart.

No, in my case they dropped my hours to zero because I wasn't selling enough warranties. They had fired others under similar circumstances before, though.

You can't be serious, or perhaps you're just upset because you work for Best Buy yourself. The "calibration" they do involves pressing a few buttons and calling it a day. They sell this to customers by telling them that they ABSOLUTELY NEED IT OR THEIR TV EXPERIENCE WILL BE HORRIBLE *dramatic mood music.* Let's not forget the multitude of times I overheard my own supervisor telling customers that a Caviar Green would make an excellent boot drive, or that a 2.5" SSD would fit in a MacBook Air. Just try and justify that, Holmes.

I could go to HeadFi.org and post "PLACEBO EFFECT!" too. It's pretty fun actually.

I think he DOES work for Best Buy.

So you have a few bad apples that woked at your store, what store doesn't. Eiter way you sound really bitter from being fired from a $9 an hour job. If you are SO much smarter then Best Buy then open your own store and put them out of business. Sounds like you and most others on here would have an easy job of doing it.

Absolutely horrible store. Who on earth is going to buy something in a huge electronics store which has some Apple and Samsung products and not more? I almost had a feeling Target has a better selection in some electronics.

Still better than the huge electronics markets here in Europe. They do not sell any compnents and the ads (MediaMarkt & Saturn) are way too aggressive (calling everyone one stupid for not buying there) to my taste. At least Saturn is moving away because they couldn't get into our market.

That's not even necessary. The natural effect of the free marketplace is already putting Best Buy out of business due to competition.

Consumers today are smarter, and consumers are also look for better ways to save money. They're figuring out how much of a rip-off Best Buy is, and that there are alternatives out there. Best Buy was too slow to react, and now they are facing the end.

I'm not a fan of BB myself, ( esp. with a local frys ) but most towns its more common to find a BB vs similar electronics firms.

but I must say I went to them to sign up with a cell carrier, and it was the most painless exp. out of using all 3 major cell providers.
no trying to upsell me plans, devices, contracts, etc.

But with my roommate as a BB employee, I get to 'borrow' his generous employee discounts ( up to 25% on some things ) and also got to use his discount on my cell phone carrier for 21% off my monthly bill.
