Tahiti voltage lock is no where as widespread as Kepler voltage lock. In fact only specific version of Tahiti are locked= XFX Black edition 7970, Gigabyte 7970 and Sapphire's 7950, a smart shopper can easily avoid those, whereas the only way you get a voltage unlocked Kepler nowadays is to hard mod them.

Kepler has been voltage locked from the begining.

And the bold part is BS, all you need to do is to flash a modded bios, while 7970s are being locked on a hardware level.

Most kepler can hit 1250-1300 without any voltage tweak, while 7970s struggle to hit 1100 without any voltage increase. But I already said that countless time in this thread, I wont bother posting anymore.

Looks like this is another 680 vs 7970 discussion that i'll have to start to ignore. I feel sorry for every single person out there who cant have a debate without starting a troll/fanboi war. This thread is pathetic.

Guys the cards are either one better than the other depending on the drivers on any given day. one day the AMD card will be better, the NnVIDIA card the next...

Considering that the 680 and 7970 Ghz Ed. are roughly the same price at the moment, that makes the decision rather easy since the 7970 Ghz Ed. is faster in most situations.

As for the rest of this thread.... wow. rolleyes.gif

Don't read the stupid fanboying/flaming here.
The 7970 GHz is a better choice. Buy it and move on.

Well I am in a similar boat I bought the gtx 680 lighting got it home played a few titles and wanted to over clock well its voltage locked. It made me sick that I could not overclock a 550.00 dollar card with a ln2 switch. So I thought about it and got pissed and returned the card to NewEgg. So now I am hunting the overclockable 7970 ghz edition that is faster majority of the time. So when I find that card I will rejoice.. Anybody know where that card is?

You can easily unlock the 680 Lightning with a simple bios flash

I would recommend the Matrix 7970. Arguably the best 7970 thumb.gif
