Hmm...Doesn't look good.

Well, all the parts arrived yesterday, put it all together last night, came down this morning, hooked up power cables, monitor, etc., flip the power switch, check for light on MB, push the power button on the front and.....nothing! Total silence, no fans, no beeps, not even a wimper. So I did the norml things, checking connections, made sure the power switch lead was on right, psu connections, etc. Found nothing wrong. So, I'm looking for help on what to check before I start tearing it apart again. My immediate suspicion is CPU--either DOA, or I got it wrong and ruined the works. Any suggestions on what to try, I'd appreciate it.

Cliff Notes:
MB light comes on, but no fans, no hard drives, nothing. Checked obvious connections and they seem fine, what to try next? How can I tell if it's CPU for sure?

Critical System Pieces: Intel E6600, Intel 975XBX MB, PCP&C 750 sillencer, Corsair 6400C4 sticks.

TIA for the help.

Even if the CPU weren't working, it would still "boot", just with fans spinning and that stuff.

And are you sure you plugged the power cable in?

Jump the psu w/ a paperclip or proper jumper (pin 4 & 5 on the 20/4 connector - green and black). Plug a fan in if you have no multimeter and power on the PSU.... fan spinning?

NOTE: Make sure you have the correct pins on the connector.

You know I was thinking on the way into work, and I might have the answer: when I put the standoffs in the case, I put a few in the wrong holes until I realized the mistake, and instead of taking them out, I just continued putting the standoffs in the proper places, and left those first few in there. I bet one of them is shorting the board (crosses fingers.) So, I'm going to recheck all pertinent connections, then pull the board and remove unnecessary standoffs, and then re-seat the CPU if still no joy. If I get that far I will try the jumper idea. I have a multimeter, it's just making sure how to use the damn thing....After that, I think I have to consider faulty parts.

I have checked the important connections--MB power connectors was suggested, and I have verified that the plug is in securely.

Any other ideas?

On a new build it is advisable to have all the components out of the case and properly grounded where necessary. Then if there are issues, it is much easier to switch components around and to visually inspect them. Once everything is working to your liking install them in the case.

Learned that the hard way with a PSU - 3 hours of careful installation and wire management just to discover that the PSU was DOA...

The stand-offs may be your issue...and that nothing was damaged... hope so.

Aye, good advice, and I'm into this one about 4 hours too, mostly due to all the crazy wires. If the standoffs are shorting the board, it shouldn't hurt anything, I guess it could happen, but it's unlikely. Now I just have to suffer through a whole day at work until I can get back and work on it. I was hoping to have that thing downloading and installing all the Windows updates while I was at work today, instead it's gathering dust...grrrr!

Thanks for the posts, I'll let you know what I find tonight.

It was the standoffs. Pulled the board, removed two extra standoffs I left in there, replaced board, fired right up and posted. Now for hours of tedious setup.....
