Massive 4.26GHZ Overclock on Old Phenom 840 (Propus) 100% Stable

AMD Phenom 840 @ 4.26GHZ = 33.125% overclock from stock 3.2GHZ

Stable running Prime95 8+ hours w/ Corsair Closed Loop Water cooling (H100i) Cores dont get over 37c at 1.675v

Motherboard: ASROCK 890GX Pro3

Cinebench 11.5: 4.53

Somebody tell me why I would upgrade to the new AMD procs for gaming when this spanks them core for core even at higher clock speeds? I bought this proc almost 2 years ago for 50 dollars at Microcenter (on special). *** AMD?

I can go higher, but it would require much higher vcore bumps w/ diminishing returns.

I wouldn't say massive. My old 810 was easily capable of 4GHz on air, I was limited by the 309 bus speed.

Perhaps an upgrade to a 1090T would be good for you. Mine got 8.51 in Cinebench, which is quite an increase.

Edit, that image isn't very clear, here's an older 8.28.

OK, maybe "Massive" isnt the right word, but I have not seen one go higher on an 840... at least on my google searches. Highest I saw was 4.025GHZ for the 840. Anyway, i will stop patting myself on the back now smile.gif

BTW this system's main purpose is gaming and occasional video encoding, so Im not quite sure an upgrade to a 6 core would be worth it for me. Perhaps for encoding but not for games. Sweet cinebench scores though!

Wow, vcore at 1.744v huh? Perhaps I may try to push this thing higher...

I agree for gaming you probably won't notice it.

You did pretty well with it. Good chip.

OK, a few tweaks later and im up to 4.32GHZ thumb.gif

Cinebench: 4.67

Vcore still at 1.675

Appears to be stable, but I have only been running prime95 for an hour or so.

Just for kicks ran OpenGL bench 55.71 FPS w/7850
