They want to be looked at as the good guys. It's  purely advertising so people think they are good.

While I agree that "censorship" is the wrong term as well, it stands to be argued that if they don't want a complete uprising on their hands (if this treaty turns out the way they are intending), there will be a way to allow users to avoid accessing foreign websites in order to avoid being hit with "long distance fees" or whatever ISPs will call the price hike which will come from this. Therefore, the mass majority will likely just "censor" themselves willingly. This is a problem.

Last I checked, the Internet does not have a government. The Internet is international. The Internet is supposed to be a place of information and sanctuary.

And it doesn't need a government but it's own international police force aim at the protection of our internet rights and the rights of others over the internet. Although multiple governments will pool resources to police such a cause, it will be an international aim to make sure the our freedoms are protected. We already have things like this set in place, but they are really lacking and taking hard criticism from current internet governments like anonymous who feel they are allowed to take our personal information at their discretion.

This is all typical squabble amongst the powerful, fighting over WHO controls something, not over whether it should be controlled or not. Google just doesn't make it public when they censor things, and they want to own the internet so bad you can feel it right where you sit right now.

Yay for google. God I love it when tech companies try and just screw the sociopaths that are running our country by throwing money and campaign ads at them.

the best way to keep the internet free as in speach, is to stop trying to protect it,stop trying to protect users and just let it be the self governing system it has always been.

And just let the current government power, those script kiddies, have full reign over your internet accounts? NO!

How about, everybody is responsable for themselves, if you leave a gapping security hole open, its your own dumb fualt. I don't need nor want the government involved in "protecting" the web, The patriot act started out with such nobel ambitions, its not working out very well for the rest of us. No thanks, the world is a dangerous place, accept this and move on.
