What a joke this is. I'd run dx9 mode but it looks hideous... jaggies everywhere and AA doesnt work on it.
Is there any chance there's something wrong here (maybe something with a workaround) or is this just another piss poor optimized game?
My system again: 2 x 680 classified SLI with a 2600k at 4.7ghz hyperthreading on, running at 2560x1440 res.

idk something is wrong with your setup. I am doing fine on ultra w/ 2x msaa and a 670. Mostly 50+ fps all the time.

Idk what to tell you man, I just checked, I'm running far cry 3, every setting I could change with a slider at it's highest, dx11, AO set to HDAO and high quality through nvidia inspector, ssgsaa 8x and I didn't see it drop past 58fps at 1080p.

Here is what I have and I can validate through CPU-Z if you'd like, but...
Windows 7 64-bit, i7-3770k @4.2ghz, gtx 680 lightning, msi MPower z77, Samsung ram 1600 8-8-8-24, Samsung 830 256gb.
Drives are the latest for everything, including betas.
Wish the best of luck to you.

Lol idk? I'm somewhat new to computers. Is HDAO only for AMD? I didn't see much of a difference except SSAO gave great shadows, but also shadowy outlines around everything. It was a little too much and couldn't tell the difference between the HBAO and HDAO so I just picked one.

Yup I couldn't tell the difference between HBAO and HDAO side by side, but indeed fraps told me a constant 60 fps with a few flickers of 59. It makes me wish I knew what I was doing in nvidia inspector to see if I can get a little more oomph. Surprisingly the sparse grid super antialiasing did't affect FPS, but everything seemed a tad bit cleaner and sharper (@ 8x anyway).

Not all of us, no. FC3 released on the 29th in the Nordic countries, and 30th in the UK. The US release date is December 4th.

Why would you use HDAO unless you're using an AMD GPU, and if you are, why would you use HBAO??
