Just bought a 7970 with never settle coupons, did not realize that the Far Cry comes out on the 4th. Now I know why I bought the new card!

I'm finding this game quite frustrating. The first time I played it, it ran maxed out at between 100-140 fps everywhere, occasionally dipping into the 90's. My GPU's were getting hammered, both using up to 90% power and temps were high, between 80-85.

Now when I play I can't get more than 75fps, anywhere. My GPU usage won't go above 55% and temps stay down in the 60's. I haven't made any changes to anything. Anyone know how I can make this game use the GPU power available to it? what is it with these kepler cards throttling back the power?

SPECS:

Intel i7 3770 (non K, 3.4GHz, stock)
16GB Patriot IEM 1600MHz kit
Gainward Phantom GTX 680
Asrock B75 PRO 3 (1.50 BIOS)
Essence STX + Swan M50W + custom drivers off brainbits blog
Win 8 Pro, fully patched, and clean installed yesterday
Nvidia Beta R310.64 drivers

TEMPS:

Intel 3770 after 5hrs solid, 45 max with Noctua NH-U9B SE2 w/ 2 92mm fans
Phantom 680 at 58 degrees celsius, CM Enforcer case with added 120mm tricool exhaust and 140mm TwoCool Antec intake, in addition to stock fans.

SETTINGS:

1920x1200
All settings maxed/set to Ultra
SSAO: SSAO (instead of HDAO or HBAO)
Transparent coverage: Standard (instead of Enhanced)
AA/AF disabled

Solid 50-55FPS+, frequent peaks to 65, very rare drops to the 40's. Odd issue where in game cutscenes are capped at 30-40, then spike back to 55 after.

Models are spectacular, shadows are great, textures/foilage need a high res pack. thumb.gif

ALL SLI USERS

1)Install nv inspector

2)Load it up and click the little profile settings button (looks like a wrench and screwdriver)

3)Top left is the list of game profiles, scroll down to find Far Cry 3, select it.
Now look at the list of buttons at the top middle, find the one that says "Add application to current profile", select that.

4)Find farcry3_d3d11.exe, usually in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 3\bin

5)open farcry 3 profile with inspector, and change SLI bits for DX11

0x000902F5 to 0x0C1902F5

6)Now click Apply changes, top right.

7)All done, play the game

This happens for me with 310.61 and 310.64 drivers, not sure about others.

aparently Nvidia is working on a fix for SLI.

Seems to be issues with the main client "farcry3d3d11", when I try the d3d11 i got heavy lag, but when i use the farcry 3 client i get no fps issues and the directx is not greyed out.. this is of course bugged, but how do i know if i have directx11 on the far cry 3 client? doesnt change much when i tone down directx11 settings, only when I tune down normal settings..

SLI worked perfectly at first... of course I'd already added the bits through nvidia inspector. Anyway I reinstalled my driver and that's fixed the issue... both card get thrashed by this game now, which is what I wanted! Frame rate is a bit all over the place... between 70-140 but most of the time sits around 100 and is really smooth. Anyway....gorgeous looking game when you switch all the eye candy on...

I saw the screenshots and I'm surprised the game looks really good. It does even have DX11. I thought Ubisoft doesn't care about PC gaming.
