if you are running dx9 then msaa is not on afaik. MSAA is a DX11 feature.

My random drops stopped when you said to try w/ out vsync. I never had an issue with vsync in any other game so yea it does need a patch...

Yeah, it's weird. If you select DX9 in the settings it grays out those boxes, but if you run the DX9 executable and select DX11 in the settings it lets you manipulate them (while still being DX9 in the game). I checked the xml file and MSAAQuality=4, and there is obviously antialiasing in the game itself, so I don't know what to believe. I guess it could be just using FXAA, although I also have FXAA=0 in the xml file.

Whatever it is doing though, it looks great and runs great. I need to do some more back and forth testing, but I was too busy setting tigers loose in outposts last night to fool with it.

I enabled Adaptive V-Sync and triple buffering in Nvdia control and turned off all V-Sync in the game. Really stabilizes the game actually.

adaptive vsync huh? I just had straight vsync on in nvidia control panel + triple buffering. Thats when I started getting drops to 30fps every 20 seconds for no apparent reason.

I will have to try that I thought adaptive vsync caused alot of problems in games but i'll try it. Do you still use the max gpu buffered frames in game or no?

So far no vsync and 2x msaa on ultra is giving me great FPS but some screen tearing since i'm on an hdtv... so I would really like to try to get some kind of vsync working for my second play through...

Max GPU buffering killed my FPS so I disabled. I have zero V-Sync in game and use Adaptive and Triple Buffering. I need V-Synching because the screen tearing is so bad. So far, all of my games function as expected, not just Far Cry 3. The game is really screwed up right now. Needs patching immediately.

I also have no MSAA on either. Too taxing for such little change (in my opinion).

Awesome I'm gonna try adaptive for sure. I am running 2x msaa cause I still get 55-80 fps (postfx disabled) postfx killed my framerate and fxaa looks bad imo. I tried fxaa through the nvidia control panel but it was a bit blurry for my liking... Ditto on the screen tearing although mine sounds like it is not as bad as yours. Yes this game does need somethings fixed but it is still very new so hopefully they will get it figured out.

Just finished my first play and it is an awesome story for sure.

Hmmm maybe I'll try disabling PostFX because I have this issue where I run it stable except when I enter action sequences and approach areas with high NPC and object densities. I'll give that a shot if you say it's an FPS killer biggrin.gif

yea its like 10 or so pages back maybe someone posted how to actually turn it off in the GamerProfile.xml file. Besides postfx also includes fxaa which is just stupid if also using msaa. It also includes motion blur... I hate motion blur.

It seriously jacked up my framerate as soon as I turned it off I gained like 10 fps+ back

So I turned it to low and enabled 2xMSAA... I now have stuttering in highly populated areas. -___-

Please, just fix this Ubisoft...
