Loved the HP DM1z, anything better out now?

Hey OC,

Right, I bought the HP DM1z last year and loved it but it got stolen. Since then, thinking I'd still want to game, I bought an MSi GE60 and tossed in a SSD. The thing screams, but the build quality isn't that great (hinge is loose after only three months, and not just a little bit), but mostly I just don't need a laptop like this, since I find I don't really like gaming much any more. I'm in university and hauling it around, and the powerbrick seeing as battery is pretty crap, is a pain. Going to have it serviced under warranty then sell it and replace it with something small, cheap and portable.

I know the DM1z is over a year old now, but do you guys still feel it is worth it? I loved the style, and for what it was, it was great, but perhaps something else very similar has come out since w/ better specs in the same price range?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Actually, given Black Friday / Cyber Monday are right around the corner, maybe a cheap ultrabook is the way to go? Ideally I'd like to spend about $500. 14" form factor or smaller. Battery life and portability are the main things I'm looking for, and the ability to watch HD videos on YouTube, etc.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.
