Difference in 2 pumps vs dual pumps.

Thread Starter
I am about to pull the trigger on a Swiftech MCP35X2 Pump. But it wouldnt fit to well where I want it. But I could fit 2 pumps in different locations a lot better and cleaner, and just tie the PWM wires together so they follow the same signal. Is there a difference between the MCP35X2 and 2 Swiftech MCP35X pumps in series?? I like the idea of having them both mounted together, but I dont think I can fit it the way I want, unless they have a counter-clockwise model with the out port on the opposite side.

Also, I am having horrible plasterizer problems with my current tubing. Can someone recommend any good tubing with 3/4 OD?? I am buying from Perfomance PCs, and making a small side order on Aquatuning.us

Thanks in advance for any help or opinions.

Technically it's the same. It usually just makes it simpler running them with a dual top. When you run pumps away from each other, you just have to pay attention to the non-res pump to make sure it gets a good consistent flow of liquid. Having them both on PWM will most definitely minimize flow differences though.

Duralene seems to be the tube of choice now with the plasticizer epidemic.

The difference in having the pumps separate is size, and the fact that now your loop will have some redundancy in the event the other pump fails. There should be no issues going with the two individual MCP35x pumps. As for tubing? I used primochill with no plasticizer issues, but I've read that it's hit or miss with them.

Pretty much what I had thought about the pumps, but was wanting a someone else's opinion. Cool thing is, is that I can buy the 2 individual pumps with the heatsinks for the price of just the X2 pump. So win/win so far on that.

As for the tubing, I have two batches of Primochill, the first was great. The second was lined with a solid white layer on the inside in days. And Duralene isnt sold by PerformancePCs

Just did an experiment with this a work, running the pumps in series will give you better pressure differential then in parallel. Also running a pump on its own you get a better pressure increase than the pressure increase across a either of the pumps running in series like MCP35X2 (the second in the series will have a higher pressure increase but still less than the singular pump). So if your had a radiator or anything else restrictive between your two pumps you would actually get a very small flow increase over the MCP35X2.

If you are running identical pumps inline from the same power source the flow should be steady across both pumps, the only problem that would happen is if you had a leak but then a pump would be the least of your worries.

Have you tired using medical grade hoses in your system, if you did and you still had the plasterizer problem then you would know its not coming from the hose itself.

Yeah they would be separated by a couple components. none of which are very restrictive. A Aquacomputer flow meter, 200mm radiator, and maybe a 90 fitting.

I am looking for some colored tubing, maybe silver, black, or something along those lines. I have had UV blue my whole watercooling time, would like to change it up.

good luck with your venture, you should post some pics up after.
Right now I have a ghetto closed loop cooling system set up and am thinking of going to a full water cooling system once I get the cash.

If you dont care about having fancy glowing fluid maybe try braided metal tube covers (check it out here)
I know there is cheaper places to buy it. I am resorting a car and am using it but I make all the hoses myself with extra scrap from work so I have no idea on a good place to buy. I am planning on using it in my pc once I get money for water blocks or make my own.
