I am not the type to have a lot of LEDs or glowing fluid, although I do have a Liquid Fusion reservoir. But I was already thinking of sleeving my tubing, like Bill Owen did here, and let select spots glow while the rest is nice slick and clean. I wouldnt use the metal stuff just for fear of arcing somthing out. But I do like your style lol. I will try to get an order in over at MNPC for some 3/4 sleeve

2 things.

1. i personally like running 2 pumps separate from each other, especially right after very restrictive waterblocks and/or radiators, that way you maintain flow consistently across the loop. check out my 800d build log as i have done that very thing with the build.

2. primochill is definitely hit or miss. their old batches did not have any plasticizer problems, only their newer batches. in my new build log, i grabbed some more primochill tubing as the tubing was part of an old batch. my 800d runs primochill. no plasticizer after 3-4 months since i've redone it thumb.gif

Ended up going with the dual pump setup, as Performance PC sold out of the single. And I think I can fit it in my build. But now I need to figure out what to do about tubing. Would really like some solid silver tubing in 3/4 OD. Any recommendations??

Even though you already bought the separate pumps, I figure I'll still throw this out there as an option. This Koolance 5.25 Bay Res is a single 5.25" bay reservoir with space for 2 DDC pumps. You'll have to void the warranty to install the 35x, but your pumps should last 2 lifetimes if you're careful with them. It does reduce performance slightly because of all the bends and cornering, but it does save a lot of space.

As far as I know, pumping at low pressures (like in a WC loop) is linear. Theoretically, it doesn't matter where in your loop your pump is placed, as long as you aren't running it dry. The performance decrease is a result of having a tight corner at the impeller inlet. Tighter bends closer to the inlet are worse; to maximize your pump performance you should place your pumps so that tight bends are as far away from the inlet as possible. As far as I know, bends cause uneven velocity (momentum) profiles; when this uneven profile hits an impeller designed for an even profile, pumping efficiency is lost. Although I easily could be completely wrong.

I have no more room in my 5.25 bays. I have a bluray burner, both my HDDs and my 360 radiator and Aquaero take up the last bay at the top. Never been too fond of those 5.25 bay reservoirs anyway. I love my T-Virus reservoir

Although you may have pointed out something I never though of before. My MCP655 vario has a EK pump top on it, but the inlet has a sharp 90 degree elbow right before it. So that my be why it isnt performing up to snuff. I am only getting .5 Gal/min with it on setting 5. But I guess that is too late now. Good thing is, I am only missing a reservoir from making another complete loop in my secondary rig for my nephews.

Why does watercooling have to be so expensive?? And addicting lol

The MCP655 should be plenty enough to run that setup. I run a similarly restrictive setup with a weaker pump (EK DCP 4.0) and it is more than enough.

If you can, swap that elbow. I had a similar problem to yours, and even worse, my elbow made the pump have a horrible grinding noise.


I don't think adding another pump is the solution to an improperly placed elbow.

I have a complicated and long loop. Nothing extreme, but I keep finding things I would like to put into it(dam Aquacomputer lol). But right now my loop consists of MCP655-AQ flow meter-200mm radiator-AQ stainless steel filter-2 6970 Komodo blocks in parallel-120mm radiator-360mm radiator-Heatkiller 3.0 CU-Frozen_Q Liquid Fusion Reservoir-back to pump

I also have 5 90 degree elbows(some wide angle, some tight) and use 1/2x3/4 tubing with Monsoon fittings, and I also like to us Bitspower SLI fittings for short straight runs. As stated before my main problem I think is that I have a tight elbow going into the inlet of my pump. Which I have heard a couple times, that it decreases your pumping power.

BUT, my pump DOES work as is. It only gets .5 Gal/min full speed, according to my flow meter. I hear the sweet spot it around 1-1.5 Gal/min, so thats one reason. Second reason is that the redundency of two pumps is a great thing since I leave my computer on running full blast with BOINC almost 24/7 anymore. And third reason is pure EPEEN lol

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't assuming the wrong thing.
If you have two pumps set up in a parallel configuration there would be an effective doubling of flow for the same tube size, increasing flow would increase the performance of the loop more than increasing the pressure. I don't know very much about the pumps so I can't say say what would benefit you more, if there is too much back pressure then some pumps are really inefficient and would benefit from having two pumps in series to increase flow. If the flow you are getting is pretty typical of the pump regardless of the system it is in then putting two pumps in parallel would double the flow.

One concern with parallel pumps is if they fail and the pump is less restrictive than your loop then it will just bypass the loop and go backwards through the broken pump. High flow check valves solve that quite easily or electronically controlled valves....... In series if your pump is very restrictive then if one fails then it could stop the flow as well.

No the pumps are in series. I understand what you are saying though and sounds correct and pumps being in parallel. The only thing in my loop is the GPU blocks. And the way they are done the flow restriction on both should be equal.

Tests have been done and these computer water pumps have almost no restriction when not running, as if one fails and only one pump still works. I dont have the link to martins test page, but he did very extensive testing with pumps in that manner.

But just for the giggles, I will be testing myself to see the difference between running one pump on and one off, and both running obviously. And gonna love the PWM feature. I will be hooking it up to my MOBO, so I can hook up my 5 PWM fans via a splitter to my Aquaero and at low temps when computer isnt running above idle the fans will shut off completely. But thats another story.

Back on topic, I guess im going to jump on some durlene tubing for my rig. Until this epidemic passes and I can find proper tubing
