That is a good price on that HD. In the real world since it is a bit slower that may only be what - a couple of seconds?
I"m thinking about both - an XFX 2GB HD7850 is a big card at 200 with $20 rebate - course it comes with three games which is a bonus. I have room & a 620 W P/S good thing as this draws 277 W under full load! I'm still looking but thinking about something a little smaller & less power draw. Running maxed out games is not a priority.

Thanks for your help & the link.

Seems expensive for 650W. If you aren't going to do CrossFire, you can easily get by with 550W (and you could probably CrossFire 7850s with it also). This Rosewill Capstone unit is excellent, and fully modular.
Rosewill Capstone 550-M $80

I think this is a better deal for the money - $60 after rebate
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341041

Similar to your build, this is what I'm putting together, and it is just a little over half your budget;

- Intel Core i5 3570K, $220
- Gigabyte Z77 MB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128543): $100
- OCZ Fatility 750W Modular PSU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341041) $60
- G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB 1600 RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314) $25
- Rosewill Challenger U3 case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147060) $40 -currently out of stock, I bought mine last week from Newegg for this price.
- Western Digital Black Caviar 1TB HDD, model: WD1002FAEX - $88 (not from Newegg)
- ASUS BluRay burner (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135252) $40
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 video: $220 (shop around)
- Cooler Master Hyper 212+ chiller (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065) $15

GRAND TOTAL: $808

Thanks, I'm getting this psu with an instant rebate & a mail in for $60. No crossfire just a single 7850. I thought it should be ok just needed a little assurance.

Yes were similar, same proc but different MB & same cooler. I have most coming already & was looking for a better price on the same WD drive & waiting for the egg to get a 7850 back in stock. I ordered a WD VelociRaptor as a second drive, hope that works out ok. The 1TB drive is for a back up. I thought about an OCZ PS but my current one is weird. I hear it kick in twice, has not failed me yet. Thanks for the suggestions.

You might want to keep an eye open for Cyber Monday deals.

For my new build I'm still debating if I want to get a solid state drive (SSD) as my main storage for the OS and programs, and use my black caviar HDD as my data and backup drive. For speed that approach cant be beat. I would suggest swapping out your Velociraptor for an SSD.

My current ultrabook has solid state, no HDD at all, and it boots very fast, about 30 seconds. Resume from sleep is a matter of 3-4 seconds. Resume from Hibernate is about 25 seconds. A well setup desktop PC should be even faster.

I have a Kingston HyperX 240 GB SSD on the way. The VelociRaptor will be for games storage etc. I wanted extra storage & backups done on an internal 1TB WD Black. No deals yet maybe on Monday.
I thought about a GForce video card but have not used one in years. Will see what happens Monday.

Ah good. 240GB is a good size for SSD, you can load you entire programs directory on that.

I'm aiming for a GTX 660 2GB, most of them are $220-230. I figure if they go on sale Monday and I snag one for $200 I'd be happy. Unfortunately, I missed the lightning deal on the i5 3570K for $189 on Friday, so I'm still hoping to save a few bucks on that too. But I have a full day on Monday, so I don't know how much time I'm going to have to shop, but with the holidays upon us, I'm sure there will be more sales.

Yes Tiger had the 3570K for 189, I missed that an bought one from the egg for 219 with a $20 gift card. To bad a micro center is not near buy, I think they are 169 there. This time of year just shows how much they get to us during the rest of the year!
