i5 3570k Now or Wait For Haswell?

Thread Starter
Right now my build is my current build (though I do believe I have my 920 at 4.0 GHz).

I want to upgrade but I'm not sure if I want to wait for Haswell or get an i5-3570k right now since I mainly game but wouldn't mind doing other things as well.

Should I wait for Intel's next tock or upgrade to the current tick? Only reason I'm consumed with want for the 3570k is the fat sale on components related to it for Black Friday.

Also I should mention I am definitely going to clock it a bit higher than 4.0 biggrin.gif!

If I am to get the i5-3570k now this is my proposed build! Feel free to add tweaks:

Edit: AHHH NOOO! I used the wrong homophone in the title.

I'd recommend you wait. I'm a proud owner of an i5 3570k recently overclocked to 4.5 ghz, and it's an amazing processor, but if you really have no pressing need for an upgrade, wait a few months for Haswell. If you don't like haswell when it comes out, Ivy will still be available. If you buy ivy now, and haswell turns out amazin, well, that would suck. Haswell might even be better for achieving those 4.7+ GHz frequencies. All your other choices are stellar though! I have a similar cooler, mine is the Hyper 212 Plus, and I can guarantee it will get you to 4.5 with temps under 70C, but if you want more, take some recommendations from the more experienced people on the forum.
PS - Are you aware that your motherboard is open-box? Just making sure.

Yeah aware on open box. Open to recommendations always.

Mainly asking since Black Friday deals are fat at Newegg.

Haswell will focus more on iGPU and power consumption. Just like Ivy to Sandy. Same heat issues too. But yeah, you should wait.

At this point I'd probably just go ahead and wait for Haswell. The 920 at 4.0 is still going pretty strong, so you can afford to wait another 6 months or so to see what Haswell brings.

Ahhh, thank you very much everyone.

I suppose I will have some patience.

Out of curiosity though when Haswell rolls around will the motherboards that house the 1150 socket also be compatible with my GTX 470's in SLI?

yes they will be compatible but since you have patience why not save some extra money and see what the new 7xx or 8xxxx series cards are like or by then you should get some great deals on 670's or 680's as well as hd7950/7970's and upgrade your graphics as well smile.gif

I have the same chip as you. I am waiting for haswell. Overall I am happy with what I am getting out of my 920. I am more interested in getting haswell to pick up a new mobo with better sata controllers.
