I'll be driving back that way on the 31st with Gappo as I'll be drinking on the 30th.
It'll be snug in the van but can do the 12:50 as i need my beauty sleep.
But it'll be feckin awesome to have you benching with us Sam, real shame Kenny and Ian won't be there frown.gif

Tube shuts around midnight to 12:30. Not sure about trains up to Stansted though.

Might be able to come after all. Watch this space, nothing for definite yet.

Edit: Not wanting to get all formal or anything, but should we be getting info (name/address, possible mug shot) from all attendees that aren't personally known to the organisers? That way we know what people look like before they come. For reference, similar things happen at iSeries (and should probably happen in Manc)

Each person should be responsible for their own kit Ian. If folks want to steal they are going to steal. And you can have all the photo's in the world and it will mean nothing without proof. And the ill-conceived notion that it would be a n00b who steals is positively insulting.
You mistake my intention - when seemingly random people walk in to see what's going on, they could be bar staff, casual members of the public, benchers, or others. You, I and most others are happy to talk to the interested about what is going on and what we are doing. At Buxton, as far as I know, no-one knew what a couple of the benchers looked like. We all had good fun in the end for sure, but color me ol' Mr Protective. "If folks want to steal they are going to steal." is not a position I want on anyone at the meet - assuming good faith works both ways.

I agree, although I can see both of your points. It would be good to know what everyone looks like, even if it's just so random people don't walk in and (potentially) cause hassle or steal. It'd be good just to save the hassle of introductions too, tongue.gif

LOL rolleyes.gif cheers for the update Ollie

I just wonder how I would feel if I was a first timer wanting to come to this event and I read that post.

The standard policy at a commercial LAN event such as iSeries: http://iseries.multiplay.co.uk/i47/faqs/arrival-check-in/#what-do-i-need-with-me-to-check-in is to provide name/address/telephone/next-of-kin when booking and provide ID at check in for the organisers, even if the iSeries is not responsible for the safety of kit inside the venue. It was probably the standard at ExtravaLANza. Should probably be the standard at Manchester. I know this is still an LN2 meet among friends with a common purpose, and the OC community in the UK is small compared to iSeries. Maybe the premise for 'kit safety' was not an ideal one to base this concern off initially but in general a certain level of safety should be considered in the event of unforeseen circumstances - regulars and new people alike.

Yeah I know...To be fair, other than nuts, bolts and bits of eraser rolleyes.gif I don't think anybody's ever had anything pinched at one of these events and even then never intentionally. Even the bigger OCN LANs.

I'm sure it's just a legal thing with I-series. We probably should have wavers for the Ln2 meets though... just not because of rubber putty theft lol

Even if there's no particular "threat," I guess the foundations + groundwork for security should be laid down now if possible + convenient. If people see + hear about a slick, well-run event where attention to detail has obviously been thought of, it gives a better impression. I'd much rather have some form of security implemented because "we're doing this right" instead of having to tell people "it's because we've had problems in the past"
