2600K OC BSOD Situation

I OC'd my i7 2600k to 44ghz @ 1.280 (MSI Board Z77A-G45, XSPC Water Cooling) and it was stable with HyperPI and Prime95 blend for hours. However, I realized that I actually had an older version of Prime 95 (26 or so), so I upgraded to the 27.7. Now I get BSODs running Blend on the new Prime 95 within 10 seconds, even when i've pushed my vcore to 1.300, although it's still stable on HyperPI

Was the difference between the old Prime 95 and the new one that huge, or is there possibly something wrong with my BIOS settings? Is it OK to just go by the fact that I survive the HyperPI tests and just go off that?

I did the same mistake, before I realized I was working on an older Prime95, and yes the newest version was less forgiving. What I opted to do, not to waste more time, was to play games and continue tweaking based on that factor.

No, the difference really is that big because version 27.7 build 2 is the first version that uses the AVX instruction set.  So this means version 27.7 build 2 is the only version of Prime95 right now that actually stresses Sandy and Ivy Bridge as opposed to just being a waste of time.  I mean, if it's not using the AVX instruction set, then it's not stressing the entire CPU.

 

What vcore do you see in CPU-Z while running Prime95?

When I had it at 1.3, CPU-Z showed it at about 1.295~. Of course, this was only for a few seconds, after which it would freeze and BSOD 0124.

If Hyper Threading is enabled, then I think a core voltage of 1.31V or more will probably be needed for 4.4 GHz (as displayed by CPU-Z).

Hyperthreading is indeed enabled. I'll try for 1.31 and see how that goes.

My Vcore is currently set to 1.320V.

However, CPU-Z has my idle at 1.304V

Under 100% Load, When I run Prime 95 Blend, my Vcore actually drops to between 1.288~1.296 fluctuations. I then crash shortly after.

Any way I can deal with this?

Can you list all your voltages? What is disabled and enabled? It will help narrow things down a lot quicker
