which cheap 27"

Thread Starter
There are 3 on newegg. I want to stay as cheap as possible. I do some gaming, but Im using a cheap Acer 24" from like 3 years ago, so almost anything will be an upgrade.

I dont like that the Acer doesnt have an HDMI input, but its $50 less than the others. Viewsonic seems to have the best reviews.

viewsonic- $249

Acer- $199

Out of those three i would go with the Viewsonic one, since its a IPS panel. But 1080p on a 27" looks terrible imo, if you really want 27" id say go 1440p (koreans, or the dell one)

And, HDMI sucks, don't use it if you don't have to.

its debatable but AFAIK The human eye can NOT see the difference below 8ms response time and you really only need something under about 16ms to avoid ghosting.

I don't see how HDMI sucks when it's the best alternative when connecting your PC to monitor through a receiver nor does he lose anything from going through HDMI. Your suggestions neither appeal to the author as he stated he needs "cheap" nor did you use a reasonable argument against 27" 1080s aside from "looks terrible" which begs the question, "why does it look terrible."

As for the OP, I would suggest going for the Asus if you're more into gaming or go with the Viewsonic if you want the better viewing angles.

I would say that the Achieva Shimian is a cheap alternative to the monitors already listed. True you will not get hdmi in the lesser expensive version, but the resolution I would say more than makes up for it.

True it may cost a tad bit more, however, 1080 on a 27inch does not really pan-out well. However, throw 1440 at a 27inch and you go from meh to beautiful.

HDMI is bandwidth limited to 60hz at 1080p, and is considerably more prone to ghosting and input lag if the monitor is low quality, spikes are easier to notice when riding the bandwidth limit (especially in the korean monitors)

Stretching 2.073.600 pixels across 27" instead of say 22" or 24" means that each pixel is "bigger". For a somewhat serious gamer that means that you have to use higher AA in game which is more taxing than a higher resolution(Assuming the AA used is a real one, and not a simulated blurry thing) (Pixel Density)

As for panel type. IPS has much more to offer than just higher viewing angles, mainly color reproduction, brightness and greater depth (agueably) .

in theory should everything below 8ms at 60hz, look the same. However, some people claim to see alot more screen tearing and motion blur and you would have to try it out to confirm whether you are one of them.
