rig for running 9-15 games at a time?

Thread Starter
I currently have a 2500k and it spikes to 70% cpu usage with 2 game clients running. I will be running 9 by next week and may even add a few more. I'm building from scratch here, not upgrading and want bang for my buck since I wont be using it for anything besides 24/7 game clients.

I know I need:
32gb ram
240gb if I expand.

Not sure on which processor/mb to work with at all given the usage Im currently experiencing. I prefer intel only because Im more familiar with it. I havent dealt with Ivy at all, so its tough for me to figure out how to gain the most performance.

if you're at 70% with a 2500k with only 2 clients, and you're planning on running 9, then you're going to need some serious power. You need to go into more detail about what games you're running, and your purpose for running them though, so that we can give you better advice.

Diablo3 and barely playable settings. Lowest resolution, tiled windows, 12-15 fps.

I would have thought my cpu could handle 8, but it doesnt look that way. If it was dedicated and cleaned up, im sure i could lower the cpu usage. Im oc'd to 3.7 and temps are low...I didnt want to push it and make heat an issue.

Gpu isn't a big deal, but i know i need 2gb vram

Sorry I'm not here to help, but I'm curious what your purpose is. Are you trying to run VMware clients or are you trying to run that many to play like your own clan or something?

This is interesting...I think you'll need to go all out on the highest performing component and I don't think they'll be bang for buck at all.

You may actually need the serious CPU power from EVGA Classified SR-X with dual Sandy Bridge E. It also support up to a massive 96 GB RAM, you probably won't need to go that far though, but you can figure that out later as RAMs are cheap.

For GPU u may want to go with Radeon as they have more VRAM which could really be the biggest limitation you'll encounter. I wouldn't be surprise if you end up using over 3GB. I'd recommend with 4 way crossfire Radeon HD 6970 with 4GB VRAM or better yet, 3-way Crossfire 7970 with 6GB VRAM.

Basically, but i dont plan on vmware. That would probably help, but I dont want to deal with it.

Sounds like he is building a dedicated farming bot rig. I see no other reason why one would want to run something like this especially as he only needs 12-15 fps (unplayable) per client and intends to run it 24/7.
